Changelog
Surface 0.1 🪵
G'day everyone! The first-ever beta of Surface is finally out, bringing many new features! Without further ado, let's move on to the Changelog, so you'll have fun exploring an overhauled world of Minecraft.
Changelog ⚙️
Although it's the first beta, Surface has already a lot to offer. That's why the Changelog was split into several sections.
Blocks 🧱
» Sludge is a new block that can be found near water. Due to the fact, that sludge is wet, you can place a Sugar Cane on top without the need for a water block nearby. Sludge can also be crafted from 2x Dirt and 2x Mud.
💡 Check out the recipe book for every new recipe Surface has to offer
» Dried Sludge is a second block of the Sludge family. You can either find it in the world or smelt a regular sludge in the furnace. Dried Sludge doesn't serve any purpose, which makes it purely decoration block.
» Dried Sludge Bricks is yet another block of the Sludge family. Just like any other brick type, you can make Stairs, Slabs, and Walls out of it.
💡 Try building with those new blocks, you'll like them!
» Rock is another block that Surface brings to the table. It generates in the world of Minecraft, often enough, so you can be sure you'll find one pretty quickly. It behaves just like Sea Pickles do, you can place up to 3 rocks in one block. Additionally, rocks can even be rotated in every direction.
» Stumps can be found in the world of Minecraft, mainly in the forests. There is grand total of 8 stumps, one for every Wood Type in the game. They can also be rotated, allowing you new ways to incorporate them into your builds.
💡 If you only need a few planks, but don't want to chop down a forest, you should look after Stumps - they can be crafted into 3x Planks of their respective type.
» Hollowed Logs are a feature that Mojang wanted to add in 1.19, but unfortunately, weren't able to. Luckily, Surface took care of them! You can now find them in forests, as fallen trees.
World Generation 🌎
As you may have noticed, Surface aims to fully overhaul the vanilla World Generation. To allow you to play Surface earlier, I've decided to stick with only Forest, Birch Forest, and Plains biomes for now, this makes it possible to post the first beta way quicker.
💡Surface will fully overhaul the world of Minecraft in the future, this is only a beta!
» Rocks are a new type of feature that is generated in the world. To avoid any misunderstanding, I'll refer to them as Structured Rocks. They can be generated out of any type of stone, and have some rocks on top.
» Fallen Trees are yet another new type of feature Surface brings into the game. They generate in the Forests and can be covered with moss and mushrooms.
» Fancy Trees are a fancy way to generate trees. In 1.19 concept arts, you may have noticed a new type of trunk in the birch forest. Surface also took care of it and now trees are generated with this kind of Trunk.
💡Check out the Gallery page to find images of Biomes that Surface has already overhauled.
Entities
» Snail is a fully new entity, that Surface brings to the game. During rain, there is a 10% chance to find them while breaking Hollowed Logs. If you got lucky and found one - don't kill it! Snails love wet weather, and once the rain ends, they will get into their shells, and you'll get a Snail Shell.
Items
» Snail Shell is a new Item that can only be obtained from Snails, and only in case it gets into its shell after rain. Snail Shells allow you to protect your Items from breaking. You can apply a Snail Shell on any breakable item in the anvil. Think of them as Totem of Undying for items. When a protected Item should break, the snail shell will break instead, and give your item 5% of additional durability.
