πΏ Overview The Pet Rabbit mod breathes new life into Minecraft's humble rabbits! Once just a source of food and hide, they can now become your loyal companions. Tame them, take them on adventures, or let them roam freely at home. With unique personalities and a fully-fledged genetics system, every rabbit feels truly alive and uniquely yours.
π₯** Taming & Interaction** The "Gacha" Taming Experience Right-click a wild rabbit while holding one of the following items to attempt taming:
πΌ** Dandelion: 20% Success Chance**
π₯ Carrot: 10% Success Chance
β οΈ** Hardcore Rule (Vanilla Wolf/Cat Style):** Whether your taming attempt succeeds or fails, one item is always consumed (unless you are in Creative mode). Stock up on veggies before you go rabbit hunting!
Immersive Feedback β Success: Heart particles β€οΈ burst around the rabbit with an ambient sound. It will immediately sit down (STAY mode), obediently waiting for your first command.
β Failure: Smoke particles π¨ appear, the item is consumed, and you'll have to try again.
π Command Modes Once tamed, right-click with an empty hand to cycle through three behavioral modes:
π§ Stay: Sits completely still, loyally holding its position.
π Follow: Closely follows you, teleporting instantly if left too far behind.
πΈ Free: Roams freely in your vicinity.
π The Personality System Upon a successful tame, the rabbit will "awaken" with a randomly assigned personality (50/50 chance):
π’ Cautious - "The Introvert" Actively flees from non-owner players. If a stranger gets within 2 blocks, it will immediately bolt to a safe distance (4 blocks away).
Has a 10-second panic cooldown.
Perfect for players who want a pet that "only trusts its master."
π Gentle - "The Sweetheart" Never flees from strangers. Completely friendly and loves the attention.
When in "Free" mode, it wanders and hops around lazily.
Will only run away if physically attacked.
Great for bustling multiplayer servers.
π Genetics & Breeding The breeding system is deeply rooted in vanilla wolf logic, but enhanced with a genetic twist:
Basic Breeding Use a π₯ Golden Carrot to trigger the vanilla breeding mechanic. Both rabbits will enter love mode.
β Reproductive Isolation Tamed rabbits cannot crossbreed with wild ones! Even if both are fed golden carrots, nature (and this mod) will prevent them from producing offspring.
πΆ Custody Battles (Vanilla Wolf Rules) If two rabbits owned by different players breed, who gets the baby?
If one parent is Sitting (STAY), the baby belongs to the owner of the Standing (Free/Follow) parent.
If neither is sitting, the baby belongs to the owner of the parent that was loaded into the world first.
π§¬** Inheritance & Hyperactive Babies** Personality Inheritance: The baby will randomly inherit the exact personality of either its father or mother. You can selectively breed for a pureline of "Gentle" or "Cautious" rabbits!
Hyperactive Nature: Babies are born in Follow mode by default. Furthermore, baby rabbits are bundles of energyβthey move and jump roughly 3Γ more frequently than adults! ππ¨
π** UI & Mod Integration** Line of Sight Nameplates When you look directly at your rabbit (within 10 blocks, unobstructed), elegant floating text will display its current Mode and Personality (color-coded) above its head.
π** JADE Integration (Highly Recommended)** If you install the popular JADE mod, aiming at a rabbit will reveal a sleek, professional tooltip overlay:
Plaintext π° Rabbit Status: Following / Free / Staying Trait: Gentle / Cautious Owner: PlayerName (Hidden for wild rabbits) π¦ Installation Ensure you have Minecraft Forge 47.4.0+ installed for MC 1.20.1.
Drop petrabbit-1.0.0.jar into your .minecraft/mods/ folder.
(Highly Recommended) Add the JADE mod jar to your mods folder to enable the UI overlay.
Launch the game, grab a dandelion, and go find your new best friend!
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
