Music and Magic — Alpha 1.2.0
Two brand-new gameplay systems land in Core Keeper Fabric: a full magic system with mana, ten new spell weapons and six summoning tomes, plus a music system featuring six instruments and puzzle dungeons sealed behind musical Melody Gates.
Magic System
A new mana resource sits above your hunger bar — 20 mana, 10 purple-moon icons, regenerates after 3 seconds without spending. Mana persists through death, save/load, and dimension changes.
Staves & Scimitar (10 new weapons)
- Simple Staff — reliable blue magic orbs
- Sticky Stick — slows enemies on hit
- Arcane Staff — rapid-fire purple bolts
- Fireball Staff — tap for a fireball, charge for an explosive one
- Scholar's Staff — hard-hitting light orbs; charged shot fires three at once
- Sun Caller — light orbs that explode on impact
- Chaos Staff — random projectile from a pool of 8, never the same fight twice
- Noxious Meteor Staff — summon a meteor from above; chance to poison
- Corrupted Meteor Staff — bigger meteor, no poison, pure destruction
- Zealot's Scimitar — a magic-damage melee blade that drains mana per hit
All staves have a tap and a hold-to-charge attack. Charged attacks come with a movement-slowdown tradeoff.
Tomes & Minions (5 new + 1 returning)
Summon allies to fight alongside you — bats, fire mites, plant guardians, skeletons, jellyfish, and radioactive hands. Each tome costs mana to summon. You can have up to 3 minions at once across all types — summoning a fourth replaces the oldest. Floating minions automatically space themselves around you so they don't overlap.
Music System
Instruments
Six new handheld instruments, each tuned to a different vanilla noteblock sound:
- Cello
- Drumkit
- Flute
- Harp
- Ocarina
- Pocket Piano
Hold right-click to enter playing mode. Your hotbar keys 1–7 become note keys spanning a chromatic scale; Shift or Ctrl shifts the range one octave up or down for 21 notes total. Release right-click to exit.
Melody Gates
A new puzzle entity: the Melody Gate is a 4×2 indestructible barrier sealing the entrance to a dungeon. Play the correct melody with any instrument while standing near it — the gate glows, then shatters and lets you through.
The first variety listens for E F G E D C D (keys 3-4-5-3-2-1-2). Hint: the gate's face shows a five-line musical staff. Play a wrong note and you're shut out until you release and re-enter playing mode — then try again.
New Structures
Scattered across the overworld:
- Ancient Gateway Ruins (rarest) — crumbling ruins around a great gateway
- Dirt Melody Room 1 & 2 (rare) — sealed chambers behind Melody Gates; bring an instrument
- Turf Ruins (common) — small overgrown ruins, good early-game loot
All four feature chests with a new dirt-cave loot table.
Fixes & Quality of Life
- Minions now physically collide instead of stacking on top of each other at your feet
- Turf Chest structures finally populate their loot (they were silently empty in 1.1.0)
- Mana HUD hides automatically in Creative and Spectator modes
Compatibility
- Minecraft: 1.21
- Mod Loader: Fabric (loader 0.16.14+)
- Fabric API required
- Save-compatible with Alpha 1.1.0 worlds — no breaking changes

Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
