Cracked Ice
Is a vanilla-friendly mod that adds Cracked Ice (as the name suggests). At first glance it looks just like normal ice, but once you step on it, the ice slowly begins to crack until it breaks and drops you into the freezing water below.
Different entities affect the ice differently depending on their size and movement. Small mobs barely crack it, while heavier mobs, boats, minecarts, and fast movement can quickly make the ice collapse.
Frozen lakes are no longer completely safe — crossing them now becomes a small risk you have to think about.
Features
- Naturally generated Cracked Ice in frozen biomes
- Progressive cracking system
- Different cracking strength depending on entity weight
- Boats and minecarts can crack the ice
- Riding horses creates cracking trails
- Frost Walker prevents cracking
- Ice slowly regenerates over time
- Multiplayer compatible (still testing)
- Vanilla-style visuals and mechanics
The mod is designed to feel as close to vanilla Minecraft as possible while making frozen biomes more immersive and dangerous.
Technical Information
- Requires Fabric Loader
- Requires Fabric API
- Works in multiplayer (still testing but it should)
- The mod is still a work in progress but for now it is feature complete
Known Issues
- Very large entity groups may cause faster-than-expected cracking
- Mod compatibility with terrain/worldgen mods has not been fully tested yet
Bugs I found
- The block is immovable with pistons (not intentional).
- When riding a horse over the ice, it isn't breaking (only cracking, not intended).
- I have v1.1.3, but it's still in very early alpha and contains other bugs that could break the world if you played v1.1.2, so for now these are smaller, less important issues than releasing an unfinished v1.1.3.
AI Assistance Notice
Parts of this mod were developed with the help of AI-assisted programming tools for prototyping, debugging, and balancing systems, but the original idea for the mod is mine.
