Create Kart ā Global Update Patch Notes (v2.3.0 to v3.1.0)
[DevNote]
Hello everyone! Since I'm not the most regular updater out there, this massive release bridges the gap straight from v2.3.0 to v3.1.0 on Modrinth! This giant changelog compiles everything introduced across versions 2.5.0, 3.0.0, and 3.1.0.
Under the hood, the mod went through a complete rewrite from scratch during the 2.5 phase (cleaning up ~11,000 to ~4,100 lines of legacy code) to achieve total stability. Following that, versions 3.0 and 3.1 brought multi-loader support (NeoForge, Fabric, and Forge 1.20.1), advanced engine audio, a complete handling overhaul, and the brand-new "Kart on the Ice" mechanics featuring glued wheels, Ponder tutorials, and sequential assembly!
[Additions]
šļø Drift, Boost & Handling Mechanics (v2.5.0)
-
Complete Drift Rework: Hold the drift key while turning (with sufficient speed and accelerator pressed) to lock the turning side. Steering towards the drift tightens the curve, while steering away widens it.
-
3 Drift Charge Levels: Visual indicators progress from smoke to flames, blue flames, and sparks at levels 1, 2, and 3 (1s, 2s, 3s). Releasing the key triggers a lengthier speed boost with rear flames and sound.
-
Dynamic Drift Camera: The driver's camera smoothly follows the kart's rotation in 1st and 3rd person (can be disabled in client config).
-
Snappier Acceleration: Karts reach top speed in ~7s instead of 11.5s.
-
Real Braking & Coasting (v3.1.0): Pressing the reverse key while moving forward now acts as a powerful brake (stopping in ~0.75s with white particles), and karts can now be steered even without pressing the accelerator.
š§± Glued Wheels & Advanced Automation (v3.1.0)
-
Glued Wheels: Shift + Right-Click a kart with glue. Create Super Glue (green wheels) gives maximum grip, increased water speed (~4x faster), sharper cornering, and faster deceleration. Ice Glue (blue wheels) makes the kart slide across all solid surfaces with unique spin-in-place mechanics when coasting on ice. Glue wears down gradually (4 durability points per use).
-
Ice Glue ("Super Ice"): A brand-new item crafted using Create Super Glue and blue ice.
-
Glue Applicator: A functional block placed on the ground that automatically coats passing karts with glue from its internal tube.
-
Sequential Assembly: Karts can now be built automatically using Create's sequential assembly mechanics (placing a chassis on a depot or belt and deploying components step-by-step through the 11 stages).
-
Deployer Recoloring: Easily dye karts by placing them on a depot under a deployer holding any of the 16 vanilla dyes.
-
Ponder Tutorials: Fully animated Ponder scenes have been integrated directly into version 3.1.0 to help players learn assembly, gluing, recoloring, and refueling.
-
JEI Support: Compact recipe viewing for automated kart assembly.
šŖ Tools, Environment & Interactions (v2.5.0 - v3.0.0)
-
Create Wrench Disassembly: Use Maj + Right-Click with a Create wrench to pick up individual components (engine, wheel, exhaust, seat, bumper, chassis) without destroying the kart. The wrench also manages tire stacks one tire at a time.
-
Interactive Seat Block: Players can sit directly on placed seat blocks in the world (Shift to dismount).
-
Continuous Engine Audio & Idle Animations (v3.0.0): Karts feature continuous engine loops (idle audio with vibration animations when fueled, running audio when moving, and immediate silence when empty or parked).
-
Achievements: Added the "Hit and Run" achievement for running over mobs, plus "That's Sticky!" and "Kart on the Ice" for the gluing mechanics.
-
Localization: Full translation across 12 languages, including localized color names and funny advancement titles.
[Changes]
-
Server-Side Configuration: Gameplay settings have moved to server configuration files (
serverconfig/create_kart-server.toml), ensuring synchronized mechanics in multiplayer. -
Parked Kart Behavior: Unattended karts stop dead in their tracks (no runaway rolling, fuel drain, or accidental damage), and empty karts cannot be pushed around by walking players.
-
Fuel Rebalance: Coal and charcoal grant +500 units, and coal blocks grant +4,500 units. Empty karts immediately enter low-fuel under-rev mode upon world load.
-
Backward Compatibility & Legacy Conversions: Older world saves (v2.5.0 / v3.0.0) load seamlessly. Legacy incomplete kart items stored in player inventories automatically convert to the new stage system upon pickup.
[Bug Fixes]
-
Multiplayer & Server Stability: Fixed dedicated server crashes, resolved network packet conflicts by merging them into a single reliable channel (
create_kart:main), and implemented strict server-side calculation authority to eliminate positioning desync. -
Steering & Physics Corrections: Fixed reversed left/right controls during drifts and corrected steering behavior during true reverse movement.
-
Visual Glitches: Cleaned up model offset issues after turns, removed flickering "non-drift" overlay bugs, and fixed pink-and-black checkered advancement tab backgrounds.
ā ļø Breaking Changes & Requirements
-
Network Protocol 6: Due to deep structural updates, the server and all connecting clients must be running version 3.1.0 (older protocol versions are rejected at login).
-
Platform & Dependency Matrix for v3.1.0:
-
NeoForge 1.21.1: Requires NeoForge
21.1.219+, Create6.0.10+, GeckoLib4.9.3+, and Java 21. -
Fabric 1.21.1: Requires Fabric Loader
0.19.3+, Fabric API, GeckoLib4.9.3+, Forge Config API Port21.1.3+, and the unofficial Blockfield Create fork (create-fabric-6.0.0.0+mc1.21.1-bf4with Porting Lib and Milk Lib). -

Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
