Brief Introduction to the Gameplay
Archaeological Research is an adventure - type mod that explores civilizations and nature. It runs through the early, middle, and late stages of the vanilla survival gameplay by expanding archaeological - related content. Archaeological Research serves as the basic mod for the archaeological series of mods (which is currently being gradually improved). It mainly expands the early - game content, allowing players to have a more immersive experience of both the vanilla game and archaeological - related content.
Mod Introduction
Archaeological Research is committed to integrating into the vanilla game in a more seamless survival - based way. The survival skills players have already mastered remain incredibly important, as they will help you enhance your immersive adventure experience. Most of the loot comes from the surface, allowing players to spend more time enjoying nature instead of becoming professional miners. (You don't produce loot; you're just a transporter of nature's bounties.) Archaeological Research does not disable any vanilla gameplay or traditional mechanics (features) to increase the fun and playability, adapting to the vanilla game rather than creating complex and cumbersome tasks. It significantly extends the gameplay time, advocating for a casual playstyle that emphasizes experience, ease of processing, and closeness to the vanilla game. This provides new possibilities for players to obtain loot during the survival and exploration process (that is, it expands archaeological - related content).
Archaeology related content
- Eight new types of trees have been added to world generation, which are distributed across various biomes. For details, check the "Archaeological Resources Guide".
- Some suspicious blocks and suspicious logs are generated in the world. They will be distributed at Y > 64. Suspicious blocks are all generated on the surface, and suspicious logs grow with trees (at least one). For details, check the "Archaeological Resources Guide".
- Suspicious blocks and suspicious logs can be broken by hand (affected by Fortune), but there is a probability of not getting loot. Using the correct tools will speed up the breaking process, and using a brush will yield more types of loot. For details, check the "Archaeological Resources Guide".
- The mod has added three types of brushes. The usage is the same as that of the vanilla brushes, and the efficiency of players painting blocks has been greatly increased (the default is 4). The brushes have added painting level content. Different brushes correspond to four levels of paintable blocks in the game (similar to the mining level of vanilla tools). The mod has added the Archaeology Enchantment (which can increase the efficiency of any brush to 2). According to the Archaeology level (up to III), the painting level of the brush can be increased. For details, check "Gameplay - Painting Levels".
- The functional blocks made of stone - related materials have been expanded, which are used for storage, item cutting, charcoal making, campfire building, food grilling, block shaping, grain grinding, livestock raising, fast teleportation, etc. For details, check "Blocks - Functional Blocks".
- The functional blocks made of bamboo - related materials have been expanded, which are used for storage, traps, food air - drying, plant drying, silkworm raising and silk reeling, etc. For details, check "Blocks - Functional Blocks".
- Convenient tools and equipment in the early stage of survival have been expanded, such as more durable stone tools, more efficient ancient alloy tools, composite boards, throwable torches, flower wreaths, straw hats, ponchos, stone spears, etc. For details, check "Tools/Equipment".
- The mod is compatible with the sniffing beast's digging logic, vanilla recipes, texture packs, tags, advancements, item tips, commands, REI, etc.
Minecraft related content
- The Sniffer will become your partner in the adventure. Similar to players brushing suspicious blocks, the Sniffer will help you carefully sniff out the loot in suspicious blocks. However, it won't break the suspicious blocks. The Sniffer's sniffing ability has become more proficient. It can sniff the same block multiple times, and its efficiency has significantly improved.
- Players can make pottery shards by hand, then combine them into a forging template in the forge. After that, they can create an Elytra in the crafting table. Use the Elytra to make an improved cuirass that can glide in the forge (the improved cuirass of the combined set will continuously provide set bonuses).
- Ores cannot be smelted directly into ingots. Players need to forge the smelted ore blanks to obtain ingots. Ingots can be placed, and by right - clicking, 64 identical ingots can be stored.
- Torchflowers and Pitcher Plants are no longer just for decoration. They will be used in making some functional items, such as waterproof torches that can be placed underwater and soul bottles for capturing creatures.
- The Wandering Trader will offer a large number of archaeological research materials for trade. At the same time, Archaeologists have been added (the job site block is the clay pot).

Q&A
Are there other versions, such as Forge and Neoforge?
A: The project is only in the Fabric version, and there is no consideration for following up with minecraft new versions for the time being.
What is the current progress of the project?
A: The project is currently under development. The primary goal is to complete the core content. The overall framework and settings of the project have been determined. However, I think it's not advisable to work in isolation. I choose to release the test version at this time because I need the feedback from the player community more to determine the direction of dynamic adjustment for the content with higher priority. The current content of the project is already playable.
What about compatibility?
A: Archaeological Research is self-adapted to additional texture packs, and the interaction logic of the Sniffer mob has been updated. The compatibility with similar mods is unknown. There are not a large number of changes to the original underlying layer, so the compatibility is good. Please feel free to play.
How to participate in the test?
A: You can download it by yourself (please make a backup before updating the version) and start playing.
Some recommendations?
A: It is recommended to use Better Advancements and Roughly Enough Items.
Note: Some of the content is only provided temporarily for the purpose of experience and does not represent the final settings. It will be updated synchronously with the corresponding core content (such as villager trading, fossils, genetic engineering, etc
Message from the Author
Hey bro! Welcome to Archaeological Research. This mod is designed as a leisurely adventure mod with the core of expanding archaeological content. Taking traditional Chinese culture and nature as the core content, it is committed to combining with the gameplay of the original version. If there are any parts that are not rigorous or appropriate in the content, please feel free to contact me in a timely manner. I am a non-professional developer. Learning to develop mods and creating them are my hobbies in my spare time. Archaeological Research is the first project I've tried to create. The content covers a wide range. While developing and creating, I'm also making up for my knowledge gaps. The project will be continuously updated, and the development cycle is relatively long. Your understanding is appreciated.
