Happy Artillery 1.2.0
Fire from the hotbar slots you choose, hold to keep shooting, and watch your ghast's cooling rate between bursts. Ammo is gone: cooldowns, heat, and overheat now govern how long you can keep firing.
Controls and firing
- Fire and Cry now use temporary controls you can move around your hotbar, main inventory, and offhand. They no longer take over fixed slots or alter your existing items.
- Controls are given only to the pilot. With both abilities enabled, you need two free hotbar or main-inventory slots; if there isn't enough room, nothing is overwritten.
- Hold Fire Control to keep shooting. Cry remains a separate click-to-use sound with its own cooldown.
- Vanilla ghast fireballs now launch clear of the ghast and its passengers.
- Aiming Fire Control at a nearby block starts firing without setting that block alight through the control item's vanilla use.
- Controls can't be turned into crafting ingredients, stored in bundles, loaded as ammunition, or used as their underlying vanilla item. Dropping one or moving it into a container, crafting grid, or armor slot consumes it. Dismount and ride again to replace a missing control.
Heat and rider feedback
- The rider display shows firing status and the actual cooling rate, including when there's no cooling. Passengers can follow the same heat status without gaining firing controls.
- The heat bar uses your Happy Ghast's name. Pilots also get a warning when a control is missing or tucked away in the main inventory.
- Heat, ability cooldowns, and pending overheat fuses survive chunk unloads and server restarts. Changing riders doesn't reset the ghast's cooldowns, and dismounting doesn't cancel a pending detonation.
- Fresh configurations use retuned heat, cooling, explosion, and Cry settings. Existing settings with direct equivalents are preserved during migration rather than replaced by the new defaults.
- Removed ammunition and passive ammunition refill.
- Removed water cooling. Touching water blocks firing by default and always blocks Cry.
Cold areas still cool faster, hot areas cool more slowly, and the Nether has no passive cooling by default. Overheating destroys the Happy Ghast by default, with an explosion and a burst of fireballs.
For server owners
- Added
/ha reloadfor permission level 2 admins. Invalid changes report the problem and leave the previous working settings active. - Configuration is grouped by feature, and you can supply just the settings you want to change. Valid files keep their contents during startup and reload.
- Released 1.1.x configs migrate with an exact backup saved as
happy-artillery.json.v1.1.2.bak. Customized removed settings or incompatible biome heat limits stop migration with an error instead of silently losing your choices. Read the upgrade notes. - Firing speed, cooling-display colors, and heat warnings are configurable. See the configuration reference.
- The central overheat explosion and direct fire placement now respect
mobGriefingwhenoverheat.breaksBlocksis enabled. Disabling that setting stops those terrain effects, not the normal impact effects of emitted vanilla fireballs.
This release is for Minecraft 26.2, Fabric Loader 0.19.3+, Fabric API, and Java 25+. Happy Artillery remains server-side; players can use unmodded Java clients. The project is now licensed under CC0 1.0 Universal.

Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
