Infinite Sky Dimension
A vanilla datapack that fills the sky with endless, unique floating islands – no mods, just logic.
Walk in any direction and the world builds itself around you. A 3×3 grid of armor stands follows the player, generating 9 completely random islands every 80 blocks. Old islands never disappear. The sky becomes an ever-growing, one-of-a-kind dimension.
✦ How It Works
This datapack uses a custom chunk‑like system built entirely from armor stands and functions.
- Player‑centered grid: A 3×3 grid of anchor armor stands is constantly aligned to your position. The grid cells are spaced 80 blocks apart, covering your full render distance.
- Island stacks: Each of the 9 grid cells contains a vertical stack of 20 armor stands. Every stand spins and fires a fill command at its own radius – narrow at the bottom, wide at the top – to carve a layered, organic island shape.
- Double randomness:
- Layer RNG: Every single armor stand rolls a random radius each time an island generates, so the silhouette is always jagged and natural.
- Size RNG: The entire island also randomly picks one of 6 size tiers (0–5), scaling every layer by an extra block of radius.
- Result: no two islands are ever alike.
- Infinite persistence: Islands are never cleared. As you move, old islands stay behind and new ones appear ahead. The sky fills up forever.
- Automatic trigger: A marker armor stand is dropped onto the island you're standing on. A tick function checks your distance to that marker. Once you're 80 blocks away, a fresh set of 9 islands spawns around your new location and the marker updates.
✦ Technical Details
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Total armor stands | 190 (9 grid anchors + 9×20 orbit stands) |
| Functions | 25 |
| Grid size | 3×3 (80‑block spacing) |
| Island sizes | 6 random tiers (0–5) |
| Layers per island | 20 |
| Namespace | maniac |
| Min/max game version | 1.21.10 |
No command blocks are required in‑world. Everything runs directly from the datapack.
All heavy work (fill commands) happens only during generation, so performance stays smooth during normal gameplay.
✦ Installation
- Download the datapack
.zip. - Place it inside your world's
datapacksfolder:
.minecraft/saves/<your_world>/datapacks/ - In‑game, run
/reload.
The generator starts automatically – no extra command needed.
Note: This datapack is designed for vanilla Minecraft. No mods, no resource packs, no datapack dependencies required.
✦ Usage
Just walk. Islands will begin appearing around you.
- The island you're standing on will have a small marker armor stand (it's invisible and silent).
- Walk roughly 80 blocks away from that marker to trigger a new round of generation.
- There is no cleanup. Every island you leave behind stays in the world forever, turning your sky into a dense, personal archipelago.
