!lag 3.3.4 β optimization update (Minecraft 26.3)
Performance
- Frame settings snapshot: Terrain compile budget, LOD defer thresholds, entity-extract throttle distance, particle budget, and effective particle cull distance are copied once per rendered frame alongside the existing cull settings, so heavy paths no longer touch live config during every entity, chunk, or particle decision.
- Visibility cache: Sticky entity/block-entity decisions reuse one map probe on cache hits and read visibility interval/worker counts from the frame snapshot instead of the settings singleton.
- Particle budget: The per-tick spawn cap is read once when the world tick changes, not on every particle add call.
- Shader compatibility: During an active render frame, aggressive optimization gating uses the frame snapshot so render hot paths avoid extra settings lookups.
Compatibility
- Client-side only; no intentional visual or gameplay changes.
- Does not include unreleased Sodium-beat, fog, or cloud experiments from other branches.
Testing
- Gradle unit tests and mixin target verification on Java 25; headless client smoke when
NOTLAG_SMOKE_TESTis set. - Optional micro-benchmarks:
NOTLAG_MICROBENCH=1 ./gradlew test -Pno_mappings -Pjava25 --tests CullHotPathMicrobench.
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
