New Gameloop
Level MC is a datapack that add a variety of mechanics, with the central one being skills. It makes tools below your current tier in the respective catogory sluggish. For example for mining, a stone pickaxe will be locked until you reach tier 1.
This means you now have to get experience, but not through the regular minecraft orbs. Level MC completely removes those in favor of a skill system. You now need to sacrifice your loot to level up and unlock more tools, weapons or armors. This could be ores for mining, logs for foraging etc.
Skill Content
The datapack does not just nerf progression, it adds onto it. When mining underground, you can rarely find ore geodes which contain plenty of loot for the otherwise dull strip mine. The surface has not been left untouched either. You can now find combat shrines with custom enemies. These grant easy access to combat experience during daytime, as well as a fun challenge.
Vanilla Changes
Villagers now offer quests instead of their dull trades. These range from simple fetch quests to slaying hordes of monsters. And they make sure to reward you well. From the quests you can get new weapons and armors and even unlock new skills.
One of the skills being the reworked anvil, which has been modified to cicumvent the removal of experience. It now simply works by combining items held in your mainhand and offhand. It is even the new main way of obtaining armor past chainmail.
The enchanting table has also been reworked to simply apply one enchant at a time, and the loot in chests has been balanced around this change. Level MC even adds 2 new unique enchants for you to try!
One reworks stands out in particular though. That being the soul campfire, which can now only appear by converting a regular campfire using lapis lazuli. This block allows you to perform rituals, which can change the weather among other things...
Thunderstorm
The regular thunderstorm weather has been changed to be its own thing. Now being an event similar to Terraria's invasions. It is gated behind the main boss of this datapack, and by defeating it you gain access to an item which allows you to enter the abyss.
In the current version of the pack, the abyss is very underdevelloped, with not a lot of content. However I still think it is worth paying a visit. Do remember your diving tank unless you want to get crushed by the pressure.
Easy Addon Support
Every system has been made with easy extendability in mind, so adding onto the datapack is very easy.
