Changes
Lumen Terrain Engine 1.3.0-beta
๐ New Features
Added LTE Worker System
- Introduced a dedicated background terrain processing worker thread.
- Chunk processing can now run separately from the main server thread.
- Added the foundation for asynchronous terrain processing.
Added Chunk Task Pipeline
- Added a new chunk task system.
- Chunks now move through multiple processing stages:
- Predicted
- CPU Preparation
- GPU Processing
- Complete
Added Chunk Prediction System
- LTE can now predict nearby chunks around players.
- Predicted chunks are automatically added to the LTE processing queue.
- Creates the foundation for future pre-rendered terrain streaming.
Added Chunk Queue System
- Added chunk queue management.
- Prevents duplicate chunk tasks from being created.
- Improves processing efficiency during exploration.
Added Completed Chunk Cache
- Added tracking for completed chunk tasks.
- Prevents already processed chunks from being processed repeatedly.
Added LTE Background Worker
- Added a dedicated LTE worker thread.
- Moves terrain processing away from the main server tick loop.
โก Performance Improvements
- Reduced duplicate chunk processing.
- Improved chunk task handling.
- Improved stability during terrain prediction.
- Prepared the engine architecture for future CPU/GPU acceleration.
๐งช Experimental Features
CPU + GPU Terrain Pipeline
- Added experimental CPU terrain preparation stage.
- Added experimental GPU processing stage.
- Created the foundation for future hardware accelerated terrain generation.
GPU terrain acceleration is still experimental and will be expanded in future versions.
๐ Bug Fixes
- Fixed duplicate chunk processing.
- Fixed chunk queue issues.
- Fixed worker thread initialization problems.
- Improved LTE stability during server operation.
๐ฎ Future Plans
Lumen Terrain Engine 2.0.0
- Real CPU and GPU terrain acceleration.
- Advanced terrain generation optimisation.
- Performance benchmarking.
- Improved chunk prediction algorithms.
- Hardware acceleration improvements.
๐ Notes
Version 1.3.0-beta is a major architectural update that transforms LTE from a prediction prototype into a full terrain processing framework.
This release focuses on building the foundation required for the future Lumen Terrain Engine 2.0.0 performance release.
Optional dependencies
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
