Chinese Translator (Fabric client mod)
A client-side Minecraft Fabric mod that automatically translates foreign-language text into Chinese, using the free Microsoft Edge translation endpoint — no API key required. It runs asynchronously on background threads so it won't block the game.
What it does
1. Auto chat translation
- Intercepts both incoming player messages and server/system messages.
- Skips text that already contains Chinese; anything else is translated and shown directly beneath the original message, prefixed with a gray
[翻译](Translation) tag.
2. Written-book translation
- Adds a translate button to the book-reading screen.
- Translates every page of a book at once, caches the result, and lets you toggle between the original and the translated view (shows "翻译中…" / Translating while it works).
3. Sign translation
- When you look at a sign, it reads the sign's text, translates it, and displays the original + translation on the HUD. Results are cached per block position, and it can be toggled in the config.
4. Manual translate command
/t <text>— translates whatever you type into the configured target language and sends it.
Configuration (chinese-translator.json)
enabled– master on/off switchtargetLanguage– destination language, defaultzh-CHS(Simplified Chinese)translatePrefix– label shown before translations, default§7[翻译]maxTextLength,timeoutSeconds– length cap and request timeoutsignTranslationEnabled– toggle sign translation separately
Requirements: Fabric Loader ≥ 0.19.3, Minecraft 26.2.x, Java ≥ 25, and Fabric API; client-side only.
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
