Mob Loot Bags 2.0.0 — Spoils of the Hunt
A full rework of Mob Loot Bags. The idea is unchanged (mobs drop bags, you open them for loot), but every system,
texture, sound, screen and config file is new. Worlds from 1.x keep working: item and block IDs are the same, old
Timed bags and machines are converted, and customised config/mlb/ settings are carried over on first start.
Available for Minecraft 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 on Fabric (needs Fabric API) and NeoForge (Forge on 1.20.1).
Bags and drops
- New Mythic tier above Legendary: nether stars, maxed netherite gear, beacons. Craft four Legendary bags and a nether star into one, or split any bag back into four of the tier below.
- Bag Luck decides how good a bag is. Looting, the Luck attribute, the mob's max health, the Nether (+0.5), the End (+1) and Hard difficulty (+0.25) all push the odds toward the higher tiers.
- Tougher mobs drop more often: the 18% base chance scales from ×0.5 to ×2.5 with the mob's max health.
- Bad-luck protection per player: a bag after 12 kills without one, at least a Rare after 20 bags, at least a Legendary after 200.
- Bosses (Wither, Ender Dragon, Warden, Elder Guardian and anything in
#c:bosses) always drop three Epic or better bags, each with a 15% chance to be Mythic. - Bag carriers: some naturally spawned zombies, skeletons, piglins and illagers spawn holding a bag, and always drop it.
- Themed loot: bags dropped in the Nether and the End add Nether or End spoils on top of the normal roll. Any dimension can get a theme with a datapack table.
- Fair to farms: mobs from monster spawners drop a quarter as often; slimes, magma cubes, silverfish and endermites drop a quarter as often; the chance can be tuned per mob or per entity tag.
- Pets' kills and arrows count for their owner. Legendary and Mythic drops are announced in chat; Rare and better bags chime when they drop.
Opening bags
- Hold Use to open (0.8 s, configurable, 0 = instant) with a rustle and particles. Sneak to open the whole stack.
- Loot goes straight into your inventory; what doesn't fit drops at your feet. It never lands in the hand you are opening with, so holding Use can't equip, eat or throw the loot by accident.
- A reveal toast shows what you got; Legendary and Mythic bags flash a title and play a fanfare.
- Loot previews: hold Shift over a bag to see what it can give and how likely each item is, sampled from the server's real loot tables (datapack and modded tables included).
- Loot beams: dropped Rare and better bags send up a beam of their tier's colour.
- New sounds for opening, rustling, drops, tier reveals, the Hourglass, keys and both machines. Every texture is new, and the Legendary, Mythic and Cursed bags are animated.
Special bags
- Cursed: an ambush of glowing cursed mobs that each drop a bag, a Legendary jackpot, a hex, or a random chaos event. Every outcome and weight is configurable.
- Hourglass (replaces Timed): ripens in your inventory over 5 to 10 minutes, with a progress bar, then opens into two Epic-or-better bags and experience.
- Locked: needs a Diamond Key (stonecut from a diamond) and holds netherite-grade loot.
- Summoning: a bag of spawn eggs.
- Fortune Talisman (new item): carry it to make bags 25% likelier and one Bag Luck point better.
Machines
- Bag Opener (rebuilt): 9 input and 18 output slots, four redstone modes (always on, on with signal, on without signal, one bag per pulse), hoppers and pipes feed it from the top and sides and empty it from the bottom, it waits for Hourglass bags to ripen, and it gives a comparator signal.
- Loot Recycler (rebuilt): grinds mob-farm junk (rotten flesh, bones, string, arrows, gunpowder, spider eyes, dropped gear and more) into salvage points, and every 64 points becomes a new Common bag. Bags you put in become stored experience; take it with the button or by sneak-using the block.
- New block textures with working/idle states, new screens, and new recipes (see the recipe book).
Progression
- 13 advancements, from Loot Goblin to Myth Made Real, on their own tab.
- Statistics for bags found and bags opened. Recipes unlock as you find your first bag.
Configuration and modpacks
- Four commented JSON files in
config/mob_loot_bags/:drops.json,bags.json,machines.jsonand the client-onlyclient.json. Every value is explained in the file, missing keys are restored, and/lootbags reloadapplies changes without a restart. - Every bag uses a loot table at
mob_loot_bags:bags/<bag>that datapacks can replace;bags.jsoncan point any bag at your own tables (several = random pick);#mob_loot_bags:bonus/<tier>item tags add items to a tier without touching JSON. A starter datapack for every version is intemplates/loot_tables_template.zip. - Whitelist or blacklist mobs by ID or entity tag; turn drops on or off for passive mobs, fake players and pets.
- Commands:
/lootbags give <players> <bag> [count] [theme],/lootbags simulate <bag> [bags] [theme](rolls a table thousands of times and lists the odds),/lootbags odds [mob],/lootbags stats [player]and/lootbags reload./mlbis an alias.
Upgrading from 1.x
- Items and blocks keep their IDs, so bags in chests, inventories and machines stay where they are.
- 1.x Timed bags become Hourglass bags; ones that had finished their timer open right away.
- Old Bag Openers and Recyclers are rearranged into the new slot layout on load. Bags that no longer fit in a recycler become stored experience.
- If
config/mlb/has customised values, they are copied into the new files once: drop rates, whitelist and blacklist, cursed bag events, custom loot table names and recycler experience values. Untouched 1.x configs are ignored and the 2.0 defaults apply.
For contributors
- Textures, screens, sounds, models and data for every Minecraft version are generated by
tools/assets/. tools/qa/drives a dev server over RCON and a real game client under Xvfb; the server and in-game checks pass on every supported version and loader.
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
