Minecraft is awesome. However, there's still many ways to improve Minecraft and make it better. For whatever reason, some aspects of the game have been neglected for too long.
Minecraft's 16 Categories
A rough estimate for categorizing Minecraft's diverse groups it appeals toward can use 16 categories. The first eight can be lumped together as "exploration", and the other eight as "utility".
EXPLORATION: Adventure, Lore, Story, Equipment, Fighting, Magic, and Travel
UTILITY: Building, Utility, Mechanics, Storage, Farming, Speedrunning, Trading, Redstone, and Optimization.
This mod seeks to improve every area at least a little bit, in a professional "Minecraft-y" way. This mod doesn't have much optimization in it, as there are already much better mods for that.
This mod is still in development. Currently only the Building and Equipment categories have been added. More categories will be added soon.
Why Do We Need Improvements?
The most obvious sign of a necessary update is in Minecraft's story: get to the End and defeat the Ender Dragon. You wander around, collect some eyes and lava powder, and follow them to the most outdated structure of the Stronghold. Look at the unfinished matter of a potential Deep Dark dimension. Where did the Ancient Builders come from, and where did they go? This mod answers all these questions in a massive piece of lore that you can watch unfold - and that many times you need to piece together yourself. The only difference is that now you have all the pieces.
Something that's really annoying is having to find and use different mods from different creators. There's always a chance for conflict, and it would be much easier to just get one mod that can do it all. That way, the parts inside that one mod can be tweaked to become as optimized and bug-free as possible.
Minecraft promises infinite possibilities. That may be true, but the ways to get there are not infinite. What if there were more ores, promising better tools and weapons? What if you were able to get special items that allowed you to use not just one version of combat? Instead of using a sword, axe, and bow, you could throw and swing spears.
The redstone community has been neglected for too long. Some youtubers have taken to making huge computers using redstone in Minecraft. If you want an actually good computer, you have to build it big and then have incredible patience as signals slowly make their way through it. Imagine a whole computer fitting into one block, with systems to speed up the redstone calculations by turning them into actual "code". In normal Minecraft, you can't simulate placing and breaking blocks, and you basically can't move them to simulate flying. In normal Minecraft, there is only one place where the Ancient Builders were seen to use redstone, and that's under the Deep Dark portal.
What This Mod Adds
Note that Minecraft: How it Should Be is in development. Expect it to be finished somewhere in the beginning of 2025. There's a lot that will be added, but here's a basic rundown.
Adventure is going to be improved a lot. Not much is changing with the Overworld, because it's already pretty sound. As new Minecraft updates come out updating the Overworld, the mod will update to blend with that. Until then, we'll let Mojang update the Overworld. Across the Overworld, you will find Book Ruins - charred remains of libraries that still hold a few scraps of useful information. In the End, you can find new ore and one other biome - there's not much more added there because it seems like Mojang's intention is for it to remain a barren collection of islands. Finally, way too many dimensions have been added, each with their own story and environment - including the Deep Dark, with a surprisingly un-horror-like story to go with the very much horror-like place. Some of the new dimensions might end up becoming boring, with essentially one biome repeating forever. The end goal is for each dimension to have a variety of biomes and nature, with plenty of diversity. If that isn't achieved before the official release, it'll be added later on.
Equipment is overhauled way too much. However, it's carefully crafted to not add too much armor or too many tools, to the point that it becomes clunky. A handful of unique items are added with custom functionality. Some new types of weapons are added (but right now don't have the intended functionality yet).
Building has been improved a lot. Have you ever wondered what you could do with different color of concrete slabs, or stairs? This mod adds a new system of "compact concrete" involving cement, mimicking real-world concrete. It adds more wood types, each with a unique color. Finally, all the natural blocks that will be found throughout the dimensions - at least for the official release - have been added.
This project is pretty big and very ambitious. Follow it if you like the concept! This mod is being made as fast as possible, while still trying to make it professional, Minecraft-y, and bug-free.
