0.2.0-pfi-beta1
Compatibility
Changes
Hello pingers! This beta brings a bunch of polish, better settings control, and more flexible outline rendering.
What’s new
TL;DR
- Unified settings screen – now shows server options.
- Chat templates can be customized per ping type, with 8 locales.
- Block outline rules – now whitelist defaults to all blocks (
*:*), blacklist wins. - Entity‑block outlines - have 3 modes (default:
ALL). - Create/Flywheel integration (NeoForge only) – now renders cogwheels, contraptions, bogeys, SuperGlue, etc. into the outline buffer without messing with glow/visibility.
- Config safety – corrupt configs get a backup and auto‑upgrade when loading older versions.
- Beta limitations – no backward compatibility with the original Ping Wheel mod; cross‑dimension tracking, Sable and Immersive Portals not supported yet.
📣 Chat & Localization
- Chat templates can now be customized per ping type, using your current language pack – no accidental template swaps across locales. They also got a refresh, and the settings/config UI is now better localized.
- We now ship 8 locales: English (US), German, Spanish (Argentina), French, Polish, Turkish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. (Ukrainian was removed for now, because I don't want to get in political arguments just because AI made some stupid mistakes.)
⚙️ Unified Settings Screen
- The in-game settings screen now shows server-side options for authorized players: default channel, player tracking, regeneration time, and rate limit.
- Permissions are rechecked on the server when you change settings.
- The old
/pingforit configcommand now opens this unified screen – all labels and messages are localized.
📂 External List & Config Handling
- The block display whitelist and shape blacklist are edited outside the game – saving settings opens your config file in your system editor. Changes take effect after a client restart.
- Config corruption? We now create a
.broken-...bakbackup and atomically reset the file. If backup fails, the original is preserved and further saves are blocked. - Config files now store the mod version that wrote them. When loading an older config, it’s automatically upgraded while keeping your custom values – with the same backup safety.
🧱 Block & Block-Entity Outlines
- Whitelist now defaults to
*:*(all blocks), blacklist is empty. You can use exact IDs, namespace wildcards (namespace:*), global wildcard (*:*), and block tags (#namespace:tag). Blacklist always wins. - The native model‑glow route works only for plain blocks (no BlockEntity) with a
MODELshape. For entity blocks, we try both real renderer geometry and baked-model geometry independently. - Entity‑block geometry has three modes:
ALL(default),COMPATIBLE, andVOXEL_SHAPE_ONLY. Only a successful render suppresses the fallback shape – empty/failed attempts still fall back to voxel edges. If this went wrong, tryCOMPATIBLEorVOXEL_SHAPE_ONLYas fallback.
🔌 Optional Outline‑Source Architecture
- Outline rendering is scoped and does not mess with vanilla glow or team states.
🚂 Optional Create/Flywheel Integration (NeoForge only)
- Targets Create
6.0.10and Flywheel1.0.6– checks for the mods before loading, so other setups stay unaffected.
⚠️ Beta Caveats
- No backward protocol compatibility with the original Ping Wheel mod – don’t mix them.
- Sable compatibility is not included yet.
- Appreciate more reports on compatibility or crashes! that help us refine the project.
- I'm not a god who knows everyone, so feature requests are welcomed!
Give it a spin and let us know how it feels. Happy pinging!

Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
