Predator Pursuit
This lightweight datapack introduces a predator behavior system to hostile mobs in Minecraft. When a hostile mob (zombie, skeleton, spider, etc.) kills a passive animal (sheep, cow, chicken, pig), that mob receives a Speed I effect for 8 seconds and becomes more likely to target other nearby passive mobs.
How It Works
The system detects when passive mobs die near hostile entities and applies the speed boost to the killer. During the 8-second window, the affected hostile mob will prioritize chasing other animals in range before returning to normal behavior. This can result in situations where a zombie tears through a field of sheep or a spider hunts chickens.
Technical Details
- Entirely passive operation with no player intervention required
- No commands or permissions available to players
- Uses scoreboard objectives to track recent kills
- Applies effects through execute commands on a slow tick schedule for performance
Effect
Creates scenarios where leaving livestock unprotected increases the risk of predation, while hostile mobs exhibit more threatening behavior patterns.
