Progression Overhaul 2.2.0: Testing Fixes
A round of fixes from playtesting: an exploit that let you skip the Flint Age, a simpler early game, clearer quests, and a HUD bug.
🪵 Wood & Sticks
- Fixed: you could chop wood without a Flint Axe. Two exploits are closed:
- Newer wood types could be broken by hand: poplar, pale oak, crimson and warped stems, all stripped logs and wood, and stripped bamboo.
- Holding any tool or weapon (like the flint knife or pickaxe) let you chop every type of wood. You now need an actual axe.
- Sticks now come from leaves. Every kind of leaves has a 30% chance to drop 1–2 sticks when broken by hand, so about 8–9 leaves gets you 4 sticks.
- Removed the gravel → sticks and leaves → sticks recipes.
- Removed the "Increase stick drop from leaves" setting, since the new default drop rate is higher.
- Jade now shows "Requires: Flint Axe" when you look at wood.
📜 Quests
- Farming is now three quests: Seeds of Civilization (collect seeds) → Green Fingers (plant 4 seeds on farmland) → First Harvest (harvest 3 wheat). The old combined quest could get stuck when planting used up your seeds.
- Clearer progress: quests with several tasks now show tasks completed ("1/3 tasks"), and the progress bar averages your progress across tasks. Before, "Wooden Toolkit 0/3" looked like three axes, and picking up seeds made the farming quest look 80% done.
- Fixed quests that needed items you couldn't have yet:
- Stonecutter moved from the Stone Age to the Copper Age, since its recipe needs an iron ingot.
- Lodestone moved from the Amethyst Age to the Iron Age. It's crafted from iron and needs a compass.
- Fixed early-game quest logic:
- Fiber Harvest now asks for 4 string, enough for every flint tool.
- Flint Toolkit now requires string instead of a crafting table.
- Stick Shift is now "break leaves to get 4 sticks".
- Added missing prerequisites: waxing copper needs shears, Laundry Day needs a bucket, and Cartographer needs a compass.
- Fixed descriptions: endium ore spawns on the main End island too, not just the outer islands.
- There are now 202 quests.
🖥️ HUD
- Fixed: the quest HUD could disappear for good. Turning on hitboxes (F3 + B) or any other always-on debug option hid the HUD in every world. It now hides only while the F3 screen is open.
⚠️ Upgrading
- The Stonecutter and Lodestone quests have new IDs (
copper/stonecutter,iron/lodestone). If you completed them before, they complete again as soon as you reach their new age. - Existing config files work as-is; the removed stick setting is ignored.
Optional dependencies
Any compatible version
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
