Progression Overhaul 2.0.0: The Ages Update
Requires Minecraft 26.3 and Fabric API. This version no longer supports 26.2.
Progression is no longer just "upgrade one tool to the next". You now advance through 10 Ages by completing 200 quests, and each age unlocks its own tools and armor.
✨ New: Ages
Every player starts in the Flint Age and works up through:
Flint → Wooden → Stone → Copper → Iron → Gold → Diamond → Amethyst → Netherite → Endium
Finish all the required quests in your current age to enter the next one and unlock its tools and armor.
- Items from an age you haven't reached are locked:
- you can't pick them up off the ground
- you can't take them out of chests, crafting tables, furnaces, smithing tables or villager trades
- you can't use them, attack with them, or wear them
- Locked items say which age they belong to in their tooltip.
- Spears, horse armor and nautilus armor are locked to their matching age too.
- Creative mode is exempt, and locking can be turned off in the config.
📜 New: 200 Quests
- 20 quests per age, from pulling up your first grass to collecting the dragon egg.
- Many cover often-overlooked features, such as smokers, stonecutters, washing armor in cauldrons, waxing copper, lodestones, safely harvesting honey, tuning note blocks, armor trims, copper chests and archaeology.
- Progress is read from your vanilla statistics, so things you did before a quest appeared still count.
- Some quests give items or XP as rewards.
- Quests that depend on luck or finding a specific structure are marked optional and aren't needed to advance.
📖 New: Quest Book
- Every player gets a Quest Book the first time they join. You can also open it with K (rebindable) or
/quests. - See every age, what it unlocks, your quests, their tasks and progress, and their rewards.
- Track a quest to pin it to your HUD.
- Lost your book? Craft a new one from a stick and a sapling, or use
/quests book.
🖥️ New: Quest HUD
- A small panel in the top-left shows your current age, how far through it you are, and your active quests.
- A banner pops up when you complete a quest, and a title appears when you reach a new age.
- Show or hide it from the Quest Book or the config.
🛠️ For Modpack & Datapack Makers
- Quests are plain JSON in
data/<namespace>/progression/quests/. Add your own, replace built-in quests by reusing their id, or remove them with a datapack. Then run/reload. - 18 task types: mining, crafting, killing, any vanilla statistic, advancements, items carried, XP level, biomes, dimensions, Y-level, status effects and more.
- Which items belong to which age is controlled by the item tags
progressionmod:age/<age>. - Mistakes in quest files (unknown items, advancements and so on) are reported in the server log.
- Admin commands:
/quests info | age | complete | reset. - Three new statistics: Quests Completed, Ages Reached and Biomes Visited.
🔧 Changes & Fixes
- Updated to Minecraft 26.3.
- Fixed Amethyst Ore not dropping itself when mined with Silk Touch.
- Added two config options: Age Item Locking and Show Quest HUD.
⚠️ Upgrading
- Back up existing worlds before updating.
- Players in existing worlds start in the Flint Age. Quests that use statistics will complete on their own for anything they've already done. Operators can set someone's age with
/quests age <player> <age>.
Optional dependencies
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
