What is this mod?

Vanilla Minecraft gives you seven tool tiers and then shrugs. SHTM: Remastered gives you twenty-eight.

Long before this page existed, SHTM (Super Hardened Tools Mod) was doing this on 1.7.10 and 1.12.2. This is not that mod screenshotted and reuploaded — it's a full remaster, rebuilt from the ground up for modern Minecraft mechanics. Everything that made the original worth playing is back, adapted to versions it was never designed for. And everything that made the original feel dated is gone, replaced with something better.

Chief among the upgrades: the original SHTM never gave its tools special traits. A Reinforced Diamond Mk5 was just a Diamond tool with bigger numbers. Remastered fixes that. Every tier now comes with its own unique effects on top of raw stats — reinforcement isn't just "harder, better, faster" anymore, it's tools that actually behave differently at the top of the chain.

This mod builds out a full horizontal and vertical progression system on top of vanilla materials. Redstone, Lapis Lazuli and Emerald join Iron and Diamond as legitimate tool and armor tiers — full sets, sword to boots. And once you've maxed out Iron, Diamond, Redstone, Lapis or Emerald, that's not the end of the road. It's the start of one.

Horizontal Progression: New Base Tiers

Redstone, Lapis and Emerald round out the tool tiers Mojang forgot to give you. Each one gets the full treatment — no half-measures, no "just a pickaxe":

  • Axe
  • Pickaxe
  • Shovel
  • Hoe
  • Helmet
  • Chestplate
  • Leggings
  • Boots

These base-tier tools and armor play it straight — no bonus effects, just new stats and a new place on the tier chart. Where they land in power is between them, but they're not there to replace Iron and Diamond. They're there to give you options on the way up.

Vertical Progression: Reinforcement

This is where the mod earns its name.

Iron, Diamond, Redstone, Lapis and Emerald don't stop at their base tier. Each one can be reinforced — refined, upgraded, and pushed further — through five tiers: Mk1 through Mk5. Every Mk is a genuine upgrade over the last, in both raw stats and in unique effects that unlock as you climb. A Mk1 Reinforced Diamond Sword is already a step above vanilla Diamond. A Mk5 is a different weapon entirely.

Reinforcement isn't a single recipe — it's a process. Expect to move between the Crafting Table, the Blast Furnace, and the Smithing Table to push a material up each tier, with the exact ingredients and steps changing per material and per tier. Getting a full Mk5 set out of any tier is a project, not an afternoon.
