Sinborn Odyssey 2
The Story
17 ages. 9 dead civilizations. 12 eyes. You don't start with a quest — you start with hunger.
Hero Blurb
The world you wake in is not the first world.
Nine civilizations rose before you. Each found fire, built farms, forged steel, split the atom, and reached for the End. None survived. Their ruins are your landscape. Their bosses still walk the biomes they worshipped. Their scrolls are buried in the chests they died defending. Somewhere in the dirt there is a recipe for a Command Block that ends worlds — and a scroll, written by someone who watched it happen before, warning you not to craft it.
Sinborn Odyssey 2 is a 436-mod Forge 1.20.1 modpack built around one idea: the history of human civilization, played from the inside. You begin in the Paleolithic with nothing but hunger. You end past nuclear power, standing at a portal frame with twelve empty sockets, deciding whether to step through.
Not a kitchen-sink pack. Not a fantasy RPG. Every mod earns its place in a seventeen-age progression gated by hand-written research scrolls. You don't advance by grinding. You advance by learning.
Play it solo or bring a server full of friends — Sinborn runs on dedicated servers, with the full scroll system syncing cleanly to everyone on join.
What Makes This Different
📜 The Scroll System Ages aren't unlocked by crafting the right item. They're unlocked by finding a research scroll, placing it on a pedestal with key items, and waiting while the knowledge internalizes. 178 scrolls, each tied to a specific mod cluster. Some are quest rewards. Some drop from specific mobs. One is hidden. No other 1.20.1 pack uses knowledge as its gating mechanic — this is built on History Stages, a mod almost nobody else touches.
And the scrolls aren't flat unlocks — they're disciplines. Each one is a body of knowledge with its own internal logic. Cuisine scrolls read like cultural cookbooks, every dish tied to the real-world people who would have cooked it: dragon meat to the savanna cultures, deep-dark fare to the cold ones. Cookware, smithing, and the crafts climb their own tiers, basic to legendary. Every content mod in the pack lives behind a discipline, so nothing enters your hands unstudied, and the order you learn them in is the order your civilization rebuilds itself.
🏺 Seventeen Anthropological Ages Not tech tiers. Not fantasy ranks. Real anthropology: Born from Ash and Hunger → The Kindled Road → The Rotting Gate → The Long Pour → The Spoken Word → The Scalded Earth → Blood and Oil → Below the Waking World → The Eleven-Eyed Hunt → The Pale Shore → Where the Skin Tears → The Kingdom You Build → The Shattered Law → What the Void Remembers → After the Dragon → The Long Road Home → Lords of All. Each age has its own tech tier, food mods, combat options, and biome focus. You feel when one opens.
👁 The Twelve Eyes Vanilla End Portals are gone. In their place: twelve unique eyes, each the legacy of a dead civilization. Nine are crafted from boss drops (Cockatrice, Frostmaw, Leviathan, Kukulkan, Maledictus, Chaos Construct, Nucleeper, Warped Mosco, Scarlet King). Three are direct drops (Wither, Elder Guardian, Ignited Revenant). Every boss you kill is someone's last guardian. You become what you defeat.
📖 The Scattered Archive The dead left more than ruins. Scattered through the world's chests — and clutched by the bosses who outlived their makers — are history folios: torn pages of a record that survived the collapse. Each one is a fragment of testimony from someone who was there. Collect them and the cycle's true story assembles itself: who rose, what they built, why none of it lasted, and what waits at the twelve-socket frame. The lore isn't in a wiki and it isn't handed to you. It's buried in the chests they died defending and carried by the things that killed them.
Pack DNA
Sinborn wears its influences on its sleeve. If you've played these or watched these, you already know what this pack is:
| Dungeon Meshi | Food as philosophy. Ecosystem worldview. The dungeon is a living system that eats you back. |
| Frieren | Scrolls as the legacy of the dead. Time as the cost of understanding. Slow knowledge that survives you. |
| FMA: Brotherhood | Equivalent exchange. The Manifestor is the Philosopher's Stone. Bosses are embodied sins. |
| No Man's Sky | Questbook as expedition spine. The cycle as simulation. What persists is Remembrance. |
| MC Story Mode | The Wither Storm as literal presence. The lie under the legend. Command Block as corrupting power. |
| Sentenced to Be a Hero | You didn't choose this — you were sentenced to it. The previous cycles left you the bill. Being the hero is a punishment you inherited, not a calling. |
Nothing in this pack is accidental.
Systems
🍳 Food is a System Forty food mods integrated into a single dietary engine. Farmer's Delight, Brewin' & Chewin', Vinery, Farm & Charm, Meadow, Herbal Brews, Hearth & Harvest, End's Delight, Nether's Delight, Cultural Delights, Youkai's Feasts, Ratatouille Fried Delights, Aquamirae Delight, Miner's Delight, Witherstorm Delight, and more. Every food is sorted into a cuisine scroll by the culture that would have cooked it, so the menus read like regional cookbooks instead of a junk drawer. 250+ foods tracked by Food Cravings. 70+ foods restore Peak Stamina. Spice of Life: Onion rewards dietary variety with permanent max hearts. A custom Food Memory system remembers every unique food you've eaten and periodically nudges you toward something you haven't.
⚔️ Combat Has Depth Simply Swords, Better Combat, Dungeons & Combat classes (Forgotten Knight, Titan, Oni Slayer, Exiled), Iron's Spellbooks (9 schools, 60+ spells), Celestisynth cosmic gear, Cataclysm ignitium/cursium, Ice & Fire dragonsteel, Aquamirae crystallization weapons, Call of Yucatan obsidian arms, Mowzie's Mobs drops, Dracolotl, Ender Trigon. Peak Stamina recognizes 130+ modded weapons. Combat Roll for movement. Cardiac for heart failure. Sculk Sickness for infection death.
🏭 Tech Has Weight Full Create 6.0 stack: Create, Create: TFMG, Create: New Age (electricity), Create: Steam n Rails, Create Big Cannons, Create: Oppenheimered (nuclear), Create Teleporters, Create Central Kitchen, Create Numismatics (cog economy), Create Radar, Create Mobile Packages, Create Gravity. Each tier is scroll-gated so the automation unfolds alongside the story.
🗡️ Bosses Are Landmarks 20+ modded bosses, each with guaranteed themed drops: Ferrous Wroughtnaut, Frostmaw, Kukulkan, Ah Puch, Maledictus, Netherite Monstrosity, Ignited Revenant, Scarlet King, Warped Mosco, The Leviathan, Ender Trigon, Wither Reincarnated, dragons of four elements, the fallen kings of lost civilizations — and the Wither Storm, summoned only by players who research the recipe and accept what it costs. Nine boss-lock scrolls gate fights you can't even start without studying first.
🎈 Treasure Balloons Look up. Rare balloons drift above the world, each carrying chest loot across five rarity tiers, common to legendary. Shoot one down and it spills its hoard onto the ground below. Not scroll-gated by design — the rarity roll is the gamble, and the open sky becomes its own loot table. A reason to keep your bow strung and your eyes off the dirt.
🌍 World is Built, Not Generated Terralith's 84 biomes, Desertification's desert overhaul, Alex's Caves' six biome dimensions, Ice & Fire's dragon ecosystems, Aquamirae's frozen ocean ruins, Call of Yucatan's Mesoamerican temples, Dungeon Now Loading, Endergetic Poise Forests, Sully's Mod. Distant Horizons renders it all out past your settings.
🩸 Full Survival Loop Cold Sweat temperature (with per-biome water cooling), Thirst Was Taken (×3 dehydration in Nether, purity levels), Diet variety (5 groups, full reset on death), Lifesteal hearts (PvP heart chain with Heart Crystals to recover), Peak Stamina (stamina drains on sprint and combat), Cardiac (heart failure), Sculk Sickness (die infected, lose a Lifesteal heart — floor at 3). Every stat visible. Every punishment recoverable.
💰 Cogs, Not Emeralds All villager trades — vanilla, MCA Reborn, wandering traders — use Numismatics currency. MCA village taxes collect cogs. Villager Recruits hires mercenaries with cogs. Bountiful bounty boards pay in cogs. The economy speaks one language.
🏘 Society Layer MCA Reborn villagers with marriage, children, professions. Villager Recruits for paid mercenaries and sieges. Companions and Critters & Companions for pets. Bountiful + Extra Bounties for bounty boards. Antique Atlas + Via Romana milestone fast-travel (no waypoints — you find the Roman road and walk it). Exposure film camera, Etched + Xerca + Vinyl Disc music, Vista spyglass views. Culture is not decoration; it's an entire scroll chapter.
Curated, Not Kitchen-Sink
Better MC adds 500 mods. Vault Hunters builds around one dimension. Prominence II is Dawncraft with lore. Sinborn is none of those.
Every mod was chosen to fit one of the 17 ages. If a mod didn't belong to a civilizational phase, it was cut — that's how this shipped at 436 instead of 600. Three Let's Do mods (Bakery, Brewery, Candlelight) were removed mid-development for exactly that reason.
No mod is filler. Every item has a home in the scroll tree, a place in a quest reward, or a role in the age system. If you find a Cocktail Tool from Beach Party, it's because the Herbal Arts scroll unlocked it. If you pull a Scarlet Crown, it's because the Manifestor asked you to.
On the Horizon
v2.X is not the end. In active development for future versions:
Automail Mod — Sinborn-original FMA-inspired prosthetics system: limb loss from specific damage sources, surgical medbed, comfort mechanics, swappable power sources, cannon arm, spell loader arm, dragon-soul-sealed limbs. Real cost for real power.
Food Deity NPC — a wandering food deity with a temple, custom MCA trades, and their own Heracles questline. Inspired by Dungeon Meshi's Senshi.
Per-School Magic Scrolls — nine new scrolls layering the Iron's Spellbooks schools (fire, ice, lightning, nature, holy, evocation, ender, blood, eldritch) onto the arcane discipline, so each magic path is studied and unlocked on its own.
Server-side polish — ServerCore tuning preset, JVM arg recommendations for 16GB hosts.
Recommended Specs
Java: 17 (Azul Zulu or equivalent) RAM: 10–12 GB minimum, 14–16 GB recommended Render distance: 12 (client) / 6 (server) GPU: Embeddium included; Sodium-tier performance on modest hardware OS: Windows, macOS, Linux all tested
Server Note
Sinborn runs single-player or on a dedicated server — the full scroll system syncs cleanly to every player on join. The dedicated server pack ships separately on this listing: 375 server-side mods, 61 client-only excluded. Server pack builder is documented in the repo. For PebbleHost or similar: upload the server ZIP, set Java 17, give it 14GB. Recommended view-distance=6, simulation-distance=4 to prevent tick lag. We've seen rubberbanding on hosts that try to run at vanilla view distances — turn them down. Hosting with a one-click "Update from Modrinth" installer? Use the dedicated server pack instead — broad installers can push client-only mods onto a server, which Forge refuses to load.
Known Issues
Critters & Companions: Ferrets can crash on attack. Avoid or wait for mod update. Cryptic Eye: End Remastered occasionally lets the enchanting table bypass the scroll gate. Tracked upstream. Tide: Creative-mode interactions with the fishing journal can crash. Survival-only is safe. First login spam: Server logs may show ServerRecipeBook: Tried to load unrecognized recipe... removed now — harmless pruning of stale player profile data from previous versions.
Together or Alone
Sinborn was built with solo runs as the default frame — the loneliness is part of the world. Nine civilizations died alone. Yours probably will too.
But the systems all open up under co-op, and the pack is built to host. Lifesteal hearts pass between players. Numismatics cogs flow through shared villager economies. MCA villages can be settled by a party. Bountiful boards distribute hunts across a server. The Wither Storm scales for a group. The Twelve Eyes hunt is faster — and louder — with three friends. Build a town with roles: one in the Magic schools, one running the Create line, one mapping with Antique Atlas, one feeding everyone from the kitchen. The 17 ages mean nobody runs out of progression to chase.
SMP-tested. Faction-friendly. You can also just farm vegetables in a meadow with one friend and never touch the End. The pack lets you.
