Changes
Smooth Third Person Camera 2.0.0
STPC 2.0 is a major update focused on smoother behavior, broader version support, and compatibility with other camera mods.
Highlights
FPS-independent smoothing
Camera smoothing is now based on elapsed time instead of frames.
This means STPC should feel much more consistent across different frame rates, including 30, 60, 144, and 240 FPS.
Your existing smoothness setting is kept: at 60 FPS the camera feels the same as before.
Compatibility-first camera handling
STPC now avoids taking ownership of camera behavior whenever possible.
Instead, other camera mods are allowed to calculate their camera normally, and STPC applies smoothing to the resulting camera movement afterward.
This significantly reduces the chance of conflicts with other camera mods.
Compatibility has been confirmed with at least:
- Shoulder Surfing Reloaded
- Better Third Person on supported Minecraft versions
If you find another camera mod that conflicts with STPC, please report it on GitHub Issues.
Improved legacy support
Minecraft 1.7.10, 1.8.9, and 1.12.2 have received a redesigned camera integration.
The legacy versions no longer replace internal camera collision calls and instead layer STPC on top of the final camera result.
This improves compatibility with other legacy camera mods while preserving wall collision behavior.
Consistent features across Minecraft versions
Maintained release versions have been synchronized as much as their APIs allow.
This includes:
- Smoothing toggle key (unbound by default)
- On-screen toggle notification
- In-game configuration
- Consistent configuration options
- English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean translations
Fixes
- Fixed a crash on 1.20.1 / 1.21.1 / 1.21.11 when used with mods that also modify the camera position, such as Antarchy or Create: Train Perspective (#4).
- Fixed the camera briefly jumping vertically when entering third person on legacy versions.
- Fixed the camera getting too close to walls on 1.7.10.
Supported versions
- 26.3, 26.2, 26.1.2, 26.1.1, 26.1: Fabric, Forge, NeoForge
- 1.21.11, 1.21.1: Fabric, Forge, NeoForge (1.21.1 Fabric and Forge are new)
- 1.20.1: NeoForge
- 1.12.2, 1.8.9, 1.7.10: Forge
Fabric builds require Fabric API.
Project changes
- Mod version is now unified as 2.0.0 across supported Minecraft releases.
- Display name is now Smooth Third Person Camera (STPC).
- Minecraft version, mod version, and loader are now clearly separated in build names.
Example:

Thanks for using STPC!
The goal of STPC is to remain a lightweight camera smoothing layer that works alongside your existing camera setup rather than replacing it.
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
