SoundMap is a lightweight client-side Fabric mod that helps you tell where a sound is coming from relative to where you're looking. When footsteps, explosions, chests, mobs, or any other nearby sound plays, Radar shows a visual indicator pointing toward its direction — so you can react faster without spinning around blindly.
What it does Minecraft already plays sounds in 3D, but in the heat of the moment it can be hard to pinpoint direction — especially in PvP, caves, or busy multiplayer. Radar adds a small HUD overlay that translates server sound events into clear directional cues around your crosshair.
When a sound occurs, Radar:
Captures its world position from packets the server already sends Calculates bearing relative to your current camera view Displays a blip that moves as you turn — if you were looking at a fire and then look away, the indicator rotates with your screen so it always shows where the sound is now Scales size and brightness by distance and volume — closer, louder sounds appear stronger; distant ones fade out Blips automatically expire after a few seconds to keep the HUD clean.
Display modes Ring mode — A minimalist compass ring around the crosshair. Each sound appears as a dot on the ring pointing in its direction. Great for a quick, at-a-glance read.
Triangle mode — A wedge beam extends from the center toward each sound. Brightness and length scale with how close and loud the sound is — strong pulses for nearby threats, faint ones for distant noise.
Customization Press G (default) to open the Radar Settings menu:
Lock to Crosshair — Keep the radar centered on your crosshair, or unlock it and offset the HUD anywhere on screen Mode — Switch between Ring and Triangle Position offsets — When unlocked, nudge the radar with X/Y controls The open-settings key can be rebound in Options → Controls → Radar. Settings are saved to config/radar.json.
Multiplayer safe Radar is client-only and works on standard vanilla-compatible servers. It does not read anything the server doesn't already broadcast — it simply listens to the same sound packets vanilla uses. No server mod required.
Who is it for? PvP players tracking footsteps or combat sounds Cave explorers locating mobs, lava, or water Multiplayer builders finding active areas or redstone Anyone who wants a little extra spatial awareness without cluttering the screen Radar stays minimal by design: one job, done well — show you which way to look when you hear something.
