1.0.5
Compatibility
Changes
Tab Name Dimmer 1.0.5 is a major update over 1.0.4. The single list of highlighted names is replaced by player groups with per-server profiles. It also adds activation modes, AFK handling, join/leave notifications, and a configurable separate HUD.
Before updating
- Minecraft 26.3 only. 26.1.2 and 26.2 are no longer supported.
- Fabric API is now required, along with Fabric Loader
0.19.3+and Java25+. - Your old
allowedNameslist moves into a globalDefaultgroup on first launch, so no names are lost. - Remove the old JAR from
mods. Yourconfig/tab-name-dimmer.jsoncan stay.
Player groups
- Up to 32 groups, each with its own name, color, priority, and toggles: enabled, Tab name coloring, world outline, model transparency.
- When a player is in several groups, the highest priority wins. On equal priority, the group higher in the list wins. Reorder groups with Move up and Move down.
- Name masks:
Clan_*matches any text,Bot?matches one character. - In the editor:
<>group navigation, duplicate a group,-+priority buttons (Shift steps by 10), preset colors with a preview. Deleting needs a second click. - Member list: search, A-Z sorting with duplicate removal, clear,
.txtimport. - Quick add from Online players, which also shows the group a player is already in.
Profiles
- Global groups plus each server's own groups. The editor shows which ones apply on the current server.
- Profile export and import as JSON.
Tab and HUD
- Three activation modes: hold Shift, hold a custom key (Left Alt by default, rebindable in Controls), or toggle with that key.
- Sorting inside groups: server order, name, or ping.
- AFK players: keep them in place, move them to the end, or hide them.
- Configurable separate HUD: position, columns, rows, avatars, and ping.
- World outlines are now set per group. They show only within line of sight and skip sneaking, invisible, and spectating players.
- Transparency for players outside your groups, with adjustable opacity. Sorting animation speed is adjustable too.
Notifications
- Join and leave messages for tracked players, full or compact
[+]/[-], with separately toggled sounds.
Settings and reliability
- The main screen flags unsaved changes.
Ctrl+Ssaves immediately from any nested screen. - Atomic saves with a
.bakbackup, restored when the main file is corrupt or missing. - Manual edits to the config file apply within about a second, no restart needed.
- The name dim color is set with
dimColorin the config file. - Faster on busy servers: group lookups use a prepared index, AFK status is checked once per tick, and no file I/O runs on the tick or render paths.
Client-side only. Mod Menu is optional and opens the settings screen.
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
