v1.0.4 — The Immersion Update
🧱 Block & Item Fear Modifiers
A brand-new proximity-based fear system inspired by sanity:dim. Certain blocks and items now directly affect the player's fear level:
Fear-increasing blocks (within 5-block radius):
- Sculk Shrieker, Sculk Catalyst, Sculk Sensor, Sculk Vein
- Skeleton/Wither Skeleton/Zombie/Creeper/Piglin/Player Skulls
- Spawners, End Portal, Nether Portal, Dragon Egg
- Soul Sand, Soul Soil, Soul Fire, Crying Obsidian
- Bone Blocks, Cobwebs, Wither Rose, Cave Vines
Fear-reducing blocks:
- Beacon (strongest), Campfire, Lantern, Torch, Glowstone
- Jack o'Lantern, Sea Lantern, Shroomlight
- Jukebox, Note Block, Enchanting Table, Bookshelf, Cake
Held item modifiers:
- Totem of Undying, swords, shields, torches, compass, clock reduce fear
- Skulls, rotten flesh, spider eyes, ghast tears, nether star increase fear
- Effects apply from both main hand and off-hand
Toggleable in config: "Block/Item Fear Modifiers"
👤 Shadow Watcher — Complete Overhaul
The Shadow Watcher entity has been totally reworked based on player feedback:
- Stands on solid ground — no longer floats mid-air (gravity enabled, physics collision for ground detection)
- Smooth player tracking — head and body smoothly rotate to always face the nearest player (5°/tick interpolation)
- Reactive behavior — if the player approaches within 6 blocks:
- 70% chance: teleports behind the player (20-35 blocks away)
- 30% chance: silently vanishes (creepy disappearance)
- Better spawn placement — spawns 20-35 blocks away with guaranteed solid ground validation (±15 Y search)
- Spawn cooldown increased to 40-80 seconds for less spam
- Lifetime extended to 40 seconds
🎨 New Visual Effects
Massively expanded visual feedback system with 6 new effects:
| Effect | Trigger | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Color Tint Shift | 30%+ fear | Sickly green/yellow overlay that gradually shifts to deep red at high fear |
| Chromatic Aberration | 45%+ fear | Colored horizontal lines (red, cyan, magenta) with horizontal offset — simulates camera distortion |
| CRT Scan Lines | 55%+ fear | Scrolling dark horizontal lines across the screen — old TV effect |
| Tunnel Vision | 65%+ fear | Pulsating black borders narrowing the field of view |
| Sharp Brightness Flash | 80%+ fear | Rare white or red camera-flash bursts |
| Fog Color Shift | 60%+ fear | World fog gradually tints toward dark brownish-red |
All effects are animated, pulse with time, and scale in intensity with fear level.
⚙️ New Config Options
Three new toggles added to the in-game config screen (Effects section):
- Chromatic Aberration — toggle chromatic distortion lines
- CRT Scan Lines — toggle the retro scan line effect
- Block/Item Fear Modifiers — toggle the proximity-based block/item fear system
All options include full English and Russian localization.
🔧 Technical Changes
- Desaturation overlay now triggers earlier (40% instead of 50%)
- Shadow Watcher spawner now respects
paranormalEnabledconfig - Block proximity check runs every 20 ticks (1 second) for performance
- Held item check runs every tick for responsive feedback
- Fixed: removed unused field warnings

Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
