Hey everyone! First of all, I want to thank you all for 1M total downloads! It is an incredible milestone to achieve and I am grateful for every one of you! I started this as a small hobby, being passionate about coding, and I did not think I would reach 100k let alone 1 Million! Secondly, I want to apologize for my inactivity and lack of updates/mods. I was going through a stressful time in my life and had to take a break.
Because of all the bugs that The Idol has, I have decided to start again completely from scratch, redoing all the code and making everything more organized and optimised. I am hoping that, this time, the bugs I’ve been fighting against for countless updates will finally go away, including the multiplayer incompatability.
Changelog:
- Remade everything from scratch
- Improved VFX
- Added a lot more SFX
- Created a File (json) config that saves for every world you create *read more about this at the end
- Made entity event spawns configurable if you dont desire a specific entity event to spawn
- Revamped Broadcast
- Revamped Jumpscare
- Revamped Spirit Box mechanic
- New mechanic: Holding your breath (default keybind is H)
- Revamped almost every event
- Added 3 new events and minigames

- Added advancements
- You can disable the background through the config instead of needing to download a different version
- Added text that tells the player to close their eyes during the hands grab event
- Made entities replace water with ice
- Made players able to flashbang other players with the polaroid
- Made entities not get stuck in boats Fixed broadcast text being desynced compared to the audio
- New system for cutscene timers that should be less buggy and desynced
- Fixed a shitton of bugs
- Made footprint and handprint texture 64x64 to blend more with the game’s pixely theme
- You can now wash the footprints and handprints using a water bucket
- Made all UI elements dissapear while getting jumpscared or while the broadcast is playing
About the config:
- The config json file will appear in the “config“ folder named “theidolv“. You can also access and config the mod using the “/the_idol_config“ command. The setting you put will save across all worlds and, if you wish to include the mod in a modpack, you can upload the config settings alongside the modpack incase you want to disable something. In multiplayer - The config settings will be the host’s, the only setting that will be client side is the “background“ toggle. The host is determined by the first player that joins the world. Only the host can access the config, other people will be able to open the “client config“ that just has the background toggle.
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
