Tinkers Compass v0.0.3
Added
Lodestone Compass Crafting Support
You can now craft the Calibrated Compass using Lodestone Compasses.
Any saved place — and the custom name of the compass, if it has one from an anvil — will now be preserved inside a slot of the new Calibrated Compass.
The slot used depends on the compass placement in the crafting grid:
- Top-center → Slot 1
- Middle-right → Slot 2
- Bottom-center → Slot 3
- Middle-left → Slot 4
If the compass used in that position has no stored data, that slot will remain empty and can be filled later.
Crafting rules:
- You can craft it with 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 Lodestone Compasses.
- You cannot craft a Calibrated Compass if two or more Lodestone Compasses point to the same Lodestone.
- You cannot craft it if the Lodestone Compasses point to different dimensions.
Lodestone-Based Memory Upgrades
Lodestone Compasses can now also be used to increase the memory of the Calibrated Compass in the Smithin Table
The Lodestone Compass used in the upgrade will be assigned to the first available empty slot
Upgrading rules:
- You cannot use a Lodestone Compass that points to a location already saved in the Calibrated Compass.
- You cannot use a Lodestone Compass from a different dimension than the one already linked to the Calibrated Compass.
If the Calibrated Compass being upgraded is still empty, it will adopt the Lodestone Compass’s dimension as its linked dimension. After that, like any other Calibrated Compass, it will only store locations from a single dimension: Overworld, Nether, or End.
* You can still use empty vanilla compasses, the result will be a brand-new empty slot.
Tooltips
New tooltips have been added for the Calibrated Compass.
The Calibrated Compass now shows which dimension is it linked to.
The linked dimension depends on the first wapoint assigned by right-clickng a Lodestone (in an empty Calibrated Compass) or by the Lodestoned Compasses used while crafting.
Holding shift reveals:\
- Available slots (4 to 6)
- Name of the stored locations
New tooltip has been added to the Compass Memory Upgrade
Now users can see:
- Ingredients required
- Which items can it be applied to
- A guide in the smithing table with hoverable messages trough slots.
Smithing Template Visual Hints
When placing the Compass Memory Upgrade in the Smithing Table, the empty ingredients slots now show clearer visual hints.
One displays the Calibrated Compass outline with a purple needle. (Tinkers Compass compasses)
The other shows a vanilla Compass outline with a red needle for an empty or lodestoned compass input.
Language Support
The following languages now have their own translations:
- es_mx
- es_es
- fr_fr
All other languages now fallback to en_us by default
Changes
Upgrading Template Name
As you might noticed, the Memory Upgrade Smithing Template now is simply called Compass Memory Upgrade.
Calibrated Compass Recipe
Rust-Proof Navigation: The Calibrated Compass recipe has been updated to strictly requie Waxed Coppr Chains instead of standard ones. Why? Because balancing raw dimensional matrix channels is hard enough without your navigation tool rusting away. Keep it waxed, keep it aligned!
Data System Overhaul
We left rigid variables behind, now the compass data system uses a more flexible structure to leave the mod ready for much larger or even unlimited slot expansions in the future!
Recipe Book Update
The Calibrated Compass recipe has been updated in the Recipe Book.
It now unlocks when the player obtains a Compass and/or an Amethyst. Sometimes it may still require both — that little inconsistency will be fixed in the next version.
Translation Polish
The en_us translation has been refined, with some terms simplified to make the mod easier to understand for non-native English speakes. (Because, this is the fallback language).
The es_ec translation has also been polished, with Ecuadorian expressions added across different text screens and messages.
Stack Limit Change
The Calibrated Compass can no longer be stacked.
The stack size (for) now is limited to 1, which helps prevent bugs and possible data corruption.
Smithing Overflow Protection
If the Smithing Table is uded to exceed 6 slots, it now clones the inserted items and returns them with all their stored data intact.
This prevents players from losing a Lodesnoted Compass by accident.
Fixed
Inventory Safety
The calibrated Compass now behaves properly as a unique data item and no longer stacks in ways that could cause corruption or weird behavior.
Upgrade Return Logic
Attempting to over-upgrade (or miss-upgrade) the compass throug the Smithing Table now safely returns all insterted items instead of fixed ones.
Technical Notes
The code has been cleaned up and simplified to remove classes and data that became obsolete after this version's changes.
Old rigid structures were replaced with a more scalable architecture, making the project much easier to extend in future phases.
Thanks for testing Tinkers Compass!

Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
