Why your village stopped growing.
Added
"Do you ever think you'll start a family?"
-
A new question under Ask about…, for villagers who know you well enough to answer.
-
They tell you whether they would, and what is stopping them — which is the useful part. Minecraft has always had two separate requirements for a villager to breed, and has never mentioned either: enough food, and a spare bed for the child. A village that has quietly stopped growing is usually missing one of them, and nothing on screen ever says so.
I'd like to, and I've food enough put by for it. But there's nowhere to put a child — not a spare bed in the whole village.
-
Also covers children, and anyone who has recently had one and would like a moment's peace.
-
The bed check matches the game's own: the same search radius, and a bed walled off where they cannot reach it does not count. Asking never claims a bed — only an actual birth does that.
Gifts a villager can use are kept, not swallowed
- Give a villager food or seeds and it goes into their inventory instead of vanishing. Villagers live off that inventory: they eat from it, plant from it, hand food to villagers who want to breed, and throw the surplus to their neighbours.
- So three bread now genuinely changes the answer to the question above. Give it to someone who just told you they have nothing put by, and ask again.
- You can see it afterwards under "What are you carrying?".
- Only things they would actually use are kept — a villager's inventory is eight slots, and stuffing it with emeralds would stop a farmer collecting their own harvest. Everything else is accepted as a gesture and consumed, exactly as before, and improves their opinion of you either way.
Notes
- Network protocol version raised to
9. Clients and servers must both be on 0.12.0. - Requires Minecraft 26.2 and NeoForge 26.2.0.48-beta, as before.
- Existing worlds need nothing.
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
