Changes
Names above the heads of people you know.
Added
Villagers you have met show their name when you look at them
- Look at a villager and their name appears above their head, the same way it does for a mob you have name-tagged.
- Only villagers who have told you their name. Someone you have never spoken to stays anonymous, so this is a reminder of who you know rather than a way around asking. On a server each player sees only the names they have earned — two people looking at the same villager can see different things.
- Turn it off under Mods → Villager Enhanced → Config, alongside your other personal settings.
You are told when an iron golem is killed
- The golem is the village's defence, and losing one is usually the first sign something has got in.
- Only deaths caused by something are announced. Iron farms kill golems with lava, magma and drops, none of which has an attacker, so a farm stays quiet without you having to turn this off. A golem killed by a player still counts — on a server that is how you learn someone has been through your village.
- Has its own switch, separate from villager deaths and births.
Fixed
- Name tags did not work on villagers. The dialogue took over the click before Minecraft considered what you were holding, so a named tag did nothing at all. Both README and the Modrinth page claimed name tags took priority; now they actually do.
- Villager spawn eggs did not work on villagers either — the same cause. Using one on a villager produces a baby again, as in vanilla.
- A blank name tag, or a spawn egg for some other mob, still opens the conversation. Only clicks Minecraft would itself have acted on are handed back.
Notes
- Network protocol version raised to
8. Clients and servers must both be on 0.9.0. Nothing the mod sends has changed shape, but villager names are now synced to clients, and a 0.8.x client cannot read one. - Requires Minecraft 26.2 and NeoForge 26.2.0.48-beta, as before.
- Names are only sent to players who have been introduced, so a client is never holding a name it has not earned.
- Existing worlds need nothing. Villagers you had already been introduced to show their names straight away.
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
