Changes
[3.0.0] - 2026-09-05
⚠️ Two breaking changes read before updating:
- Requires Paper. This build needs Paper (api-version 26.2) and won't load on Spigot. Don't update until your server is on Paper.
- Old Hyperions stop working. The sword is now identified by a data tag instead of its name. Swords given before this update are just named iron swords reissue them with
/givehyperion.
License changed from GPL-3.0 to AGPL-3.0.
For admins
- Fully configurable via
config.yml: teleport distance/sound, implosion damage and radius, the whole Wither Shield healing kit (potion effects, durations, sounds), and the item itself (material, damage, name, lore MiniMessage supported). /hyperionreloadreload the config with no restart. Newhyperion.reloadpermission (ops by default)./givehyperion [player]now works from console, targets other players, has tab completion, and reports unknown player names instead of failing silently.givehyperion.givepermission is now actually enforced. It was defined but never checked before. Still defaults to everyone setdefault: falseinpaper-plugin.ymlif you don't want players giving it to themselves.- Bad config values are logged and replaced with safe defaults a typo can't crash the server.
For players
- Ability no longer double-fires. It used to trigger twice per right-click (double teleport distance, double damage, double message). Now it's one clean cast.
- Teleport can't strand you in walls, water, or lava anymore it now checks your full hitbox and finds a safe spot, or cancels if there isn't one.
- Melee hits now deal the sword's real damage instead of vanilla iron sword damage.
- The sword only works in your main hand. Using it off-hand shows a (rate-limited) notice instead.
- Damage numbers shown are now accurate previously the reported number was unrelated to the actual damage dealt.
- Right-clicking a block (door, chest, button) while holding the sword no longer triggers both the block and the ability.
- If your inventory is full when receiving a sword, it now drops at your feet instead of vanishing.
Under the hood
- Implosion now uses one shared damage roll per cast, checks a proper sphere (not a cube), and attributes kills/deaths to the player.
- Teleport uses an eye-level raytrace with wall margin, zeroes velocity, and preserves rotation.
- Commands rebuilt on Paper's Brigadier API; chat messages moved to Adventure components; tooltips use item data components.
- Cooldown tracking switched to a lightweight primitive map, cleared properly on quit/disable/reload.
- Sound names in config are matched leniently (case, punctuation don't matter).
- README rewritten for Paper with setup, permissions, and full config reference.

Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
