xApocalypse 1.4.3 — Performance & Polish Update
Version 1.4.3 closes the remaining minor findings from the full xApocalypse code audit, focusing on performance, cleanup, compatibility, and small player-facing issues.
Performance improvements
- Combined custom zombie AI and distance-based LOD management into a single world scan.
- Removed the second full zombie iteration that previously ran every half-second.
- Corrected distant custom AI timing so it runs at the intended reduced interval.
- Preserved reliable AI enable/disable transitions as players approach or leave zombies.
- Improved AI restoration during plugin reloads and shutdowns.
- Cached frequently accessed zombie-class behavior settings instead of repeatedly reading the configuration during AI ticks.
- Cached settings are refreshed automatically with
/xa reload.
Zombie and spawning cleanup
- Removed unused player-based UndeadSpawner methods.
- Removed the associated UUID tracking map that could otherwise retain unnecessary player data.
- Invalid or outdated stored zombie-class tags are now handled safely instead of potentially throwing an error.
- Removed redundant item metadata access when creating Frost zombie armor.
- Spitter target checks now safely handle world changes.
Zombie Guts and scent fixes
- Fixed dual-wielded Zombie Guts producing a second “already immune” message.
- Main-hand activation is now prioritized when Guts are held in both hands.
- Player scent state is removed when the player leaves, preventing unnecessary offline entries.
Compatibility improvements
- Replaced deprecated attribute enum constants with registry-backed Minecraft attribute references.
- Updated baby-zombie filtering to use the modern Ageable adult-state check.
- Retained compatibility with the existing Minecraft 1.21 plugin target.
Message handling
- Replaced the loose MiniMessage detection heuristic with proper tag-pattern detection.
- Plain messages containing
<or#are no longer mistakenly treated as MiniMessage. - Invalid MiniMessage components now fall back safely to legacy formatting.
Release metadata
- Updated the plugin manifest, Maven build, default configuration, localization file, README, installation instructions, and wiki pages to version 1.4.3.

Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
