BloodlineSMP
BloodlineSMP is a lightweight Paper plugin that adds a Bloodline system to your SMP.
When a player receives their Bloodline, they get one of several different Bloodlines, each with its own passive traits, active ability, strengths, and weaknesses.
The goal isn't to turn the server into a huge RPG. BloodlineSMP is designed as an extra layer of identity and gameplay variety, giving players different ways to fight, explore, survive, and play.
Bloodlines
There are currently 15 Bloodlines:
- Normal
- Vampire
- Frostborn
- Shadow
- Demon
- Stormborn
- Berserker
- Tideborn
- Titan
- Voidborn
- Celestial
- Phoenix
- Arcane
- Dragonborn
- Mayon
Bloodlines use weighted chances, so common Bloodlines are much easier to obtain than rare and legendary ones.
Mayon is a reserved Special Bloodline and is not included in the random Bloodline pool.
Bloodline Powers
Every Bloodline has its own combination of passive mechanics and an active ability.
Normal
The standard Bloodline.
- No special passive
- No active ability
- Acts as the baseline for the system
Vampire
A sustain-focused Bloodline built around attacking and recovering health.
Passive — Blood Leech
- Successful attacks have a chance to restore health.
- The effect is less reliable during daytime in the Overworld.
Other traits
- Slightly more vulnerable to fire during the day.
Active — Blood Frenzy
- Grants temporary Regeneration.
- Grants temporary Absorption.
- Designed to provide short-term combat sustain rather than raw burst damage.
Frostborn
A stacking combat Bloodline that becomes stronger the longer it keeps attacking.
Passive — Frost Chain
- Attacks build Frost stacks on the target.
- Stacks can build up to 10.
- Continued attacks maintain the stacks.
- Stacks decay after several seconds without another qualifying attack.
- Reaching maximum stacks applies stronger slowing effects and a brief weakness effect before the stacks reset.
Weakness
- Takes increased fire-related damage.
Active — Frozen Core
- Grants temporary Resistance.
- Also applies Slowness to the user.
- The tradeoff is increased durability at the cost of mobility.
Shadow
A mobility and nighttime Bloodline.
Passive — Nightwalker
- During nighttime in the Overworld, gains increased movement speed.
- Gains Night Vision.
Passive — Shadow Veil
- Takes reduced damage during nighttime.
Active — Shadow Step
- Grants a short burst of high movement speed.
- Provides temporary jump mobility.
- Can provide brief invisibility for repositioning or escaping.
Shadow is strongest when fighting or moving under darkness.
Demon
A Nether and fire-focused Bloodline.
Passive — Netherborn
- Strongly reduces fire damage.
- Greatly reduces lava damage.
- Reduces damage from Nether fire-based enemies such as Blazes and Magma Cubes.
Weakness
- Takes increased drowning damage.
Active — Infernal Fury
- Grants temporary Strength.
- Grants short Resistance.
- Grants Fire Resistance for a longer duration.
Demon is designed to thrive in the Nether while having a natural weakness around water.
Stormborn
A weather-dependent Bloodline.
Passive — Storm Charge
- During rain and thunderstorms, gains increased movement speed.
- Gains temporary damage resistance.
Passive — Storm Strike
- Attacks during thunderstorms have a chance to trigger an additional storm effect.
- The lightning effect is visual and does not create uncontrolled lightning damage.
- An internal cooldown prevents repeated triggering.
Active — Tempest
- Can be activated to temporarily gain increased movement speed, resistance, and mining speed.
Stormborn reaches its full potential when the weather turns hostile.
Berserker
A kill-streak Bloodline focused on sustained PvP.
Passive — Bloodlust
- Player kills build a Berserker streak.
- The streak can reach up to 5 kills.
- Higher streaks provide progressively stronger combat effects.
Streak rules
- The streak expires after 10 minutes without another kill.
- Dying resets the streak.
- Leaving and rejoining does not reset the saved streak timer.
Active — Blood Rage
- Temporarily grants Strength.
- Temporarily grants Speed.
- Briefly grants Resistance.
Berserker rewards players who can keep winning fights without dying.
Tideborn
A water-specialist Bloodline.
Passive — Tidal Grace
- Gains enhanced underwater movement.
- Gains underwater breathing support.
Passive — Waterborn
- Prevents normal drowning.
- Greatly reduces fall damage when landing in water.
Passive — Tidal Combat
- Deals increased damage while fighting underwater.
- Can push nearby hostile mobs away during underwater combat.
Active — Tidal Rush
- Temporarily enhances underwater movement.
- Provides Conduit-related benefits.
- Provides Water Breathing.
Tideborn is strongest around oceans, rivers, and underwater environments.
Titan
A defensive Bloodline built around durability.
Passive — Colossus
- Takes significantly reduced damage from hostile mobs.
- Takes greatly reduced fall damage.
Passive — Heavy Armor
- Has a chance to prevent armor durability damage.
Active — Colossus
- Provides strong temporary Resistance.
- Also applies Slowness, making the Titan tougher but less mobile.
Titan is designed to hold its ground rather than chase fast targets.
Voidborn
A dimension-focused Bloodline built around the Nether and End.
Passive — Void Affinity
- Takes reduced damage in the End.
- Also receives a smaller defensive benefit in the Nether.
Passive — Void Hunter
- Deals increased damage to End-related creatures.
- Receives additional PvE damage benefits against other non-player creatures.
Passive — Nether Hunter
- Gains a smaller offensive bonus while fighting in the Nether.
Active — Void Blink
- Provides a short-range mobility option for repositioning.
- Intended for escaping, chasing, or navigating dangerous dimensions.
Voidborn becomes especially useful when exploring or fighting in other dimensions.
Celestial
A defensive and recovery-focused Bloodline.
Passive — Divine Protection
- Reduces several environmental damage sources.
- Includes protection against fall damage, fire, fire ticks, and hot surfaces.
Passive — Divine Recovery
- When heavily injured, has a chance to receive a short regeneration effect.
Active — Divine Grace
- Provides temporary Regeneration.
- Provides temporary Absorption.
- Provides short Resistance.
Celestial focuses on surviving dangerous situations rather than maximizing damage.
Phoenix
A survival-focused Bloodline with a unique death mechanic.
Passive — Phoenix Rebirth
- Starts with 2 rebirth charges per life.
- When lethal damage would normally kill the player, a charge can be consumed instead.
- The player is restored with health and receives a brief protection period.
- Additional recovery effects are applied after the rebirth.
- Fire is cleared during the recovery.
Certain unavoidable death causes, such as void-related deaths and /kill, do not trigger the rebirth.
Charge system
- Maximum of 2 charges.
- Charges are reset when the player actually dies.
- Rejoining does not restore consumed charges.
Active — Phoenix Flame
- Grants temporary Strength.
- Grants temporary Speed.
- Grants temporary Fire Resistance.
Phoenix is built around having a limited second chance rather than unlimited resurrection.
Arcane
A utility and defensive Bloodline.
Passive — Arcane Ward
- Has a chance to reduce incoming damage.
- The effect triggers independently rather than providing permanent Resistance.
Active — Arcane Resonance
- Provides temporary Luck.
- Provides Night Vision.
- Provides temporary Haste.
Arcane focuses on flexibility, utility, and unpredictable defensive protection.
Dragonborn
A powerful PvE and fire-focused Bloodline.
Passive — Draconic Resistance
- Extremely strong resistance to fire-related damage.
- Includes fire, lava, fire ticks, and hot surfaces.
Passive — Draconic Might
- Deals increased damage to non-player creatures.
- Receives an additional damage bonus against major bosses and dangerous entities.
The stronger PvE bonus applies against powerful encounters such as the Ender Dragon, Wither, and Warden.
Active — Dragon's Roar
- Provides a temporary combat boost.
- Creates a powerful dragon-themed effect around the player.
- Can knock nearby hostile creatures away.
Dragonborn is primarily designed for PvE, boss fights, and dangerous exploration.
Mayon
Mayon is a reserved Special Bloodline.
- Not part of the random Bloodline pool.
- Not assigned through normal weighted rolls.
- Reserved for special use.
- Does not automatically receive an advantage over the other Bloodlines.
Its purpose can be expanded separately without affecting the normal Bloodline balance.
Bloodline Sigil
Players use a Bloodline Sigil to activate their Bloodline's active ability.
The Sigil is permanently bound to its owner.
This means another player cannot simply pick up someone's Sigil and use that player's Bloodline ability.
Active abilities also use cooldowns to prevent repeated ability spam.
Awakening System
New Bloodlines can be assigned through an awakening process.
The awakening timer:
- Continues while the player is offline.
- Cannot be reset by leaving and rejoining.
- Is stored using persistent timestamps.
- Uses a lightweight visual action-bar progress bar.
- Does not require a per-player repeating task.
The progress bar uses 10 visual segments and changes color as the awakening gets closer to completion.
Commands
Main command:
/bloodline
Alias:
/bl
Player commands:
/bloodline info
/bloodline list
/bloodline ability
/bloodline help
Admin commands:

- Automatic Bloodline assignment
- Awakening assignment mode
- Awakening delay
- Awakening progress bar
- Bloodline reveal animation
- Ability enable/disable
- Ability cooldown multiplier
- Particles
- Sounds
- Action-bar effects

Server Friendly
BloodlineSMP is designed to remain lightweight and suitable for small SMP servers.
It does not require:
- A database
- A web panel
- A resource pack
- A client-side mod
- A separate service
The plugin avoids unnecessary permanent per-player tasks.
Combat mechanics are handled through Minecraft events, while the awakening system uses a single lightweight timer rather than a separate repeating task for every player.
Requirements
- Paper 1.21.10 / 1.21.11
- Java 21
- Server-side plugin
- No client mod required
PlaceholderAPI is optional and can be used for Bloodline-related placeholders.
Philosophy
BloodlineSMP is meant to be a simple addition to an SMP:
Get a Bloodline.
Learn what it does.
Play around with its strengths and weaknesses.
Make it part of your playstyle.
It adds variety without turning the server into a full RPG.
