Become best friends with your pet tadpoles! This datapack lets you lock the age of tadpoles, give them invincibility (making them invulnerable to drying out, no need for water), and attach leads to them. The mod Carry On is a great addition to this datapack so you can pick up and hug your tadpoles and show them all the love these little guys deserve.
Leashing a Tadpole
Tadpoles can be a bit hesitant about having a lead attached, so you'll need to have a lead in your off-hand while you feed the tadpole a slime ball, then they’ll happily get on the lead, ready for a walk or a swimming lesson.
Tame a Tadpole
To make a tadpole your pet, just use a name tag to name them "pet", then after they're tamed you can rename them to whatever you like. Now your tadpole will be protected from all harm that comes their way by the power of your love! And the "pet" name tag doesn't get used up in this process, so you only need one name tag. You can also make a tadpole your pet by renaming them in a bucket to either "pet", then dispense your tadpole into some water and go to sleep in a bed - when you wake up, your tadpoles will be ready to be your new best friend.
Troubleshooting
- [RESOLVED in v1.3+] Leads are attached to tadpoles based on proximity to the player, meaning that if there's a closer tadpole than the one currently in the crosshair of the player, the lead will attach to the closer tadpole. This can be an issue if you have many tadpoles in a tight space and you're trying to attach a lead a specific one. In version 1.3 and later, the proximity targeting system was replaced with a raycasting (crosshair) one that accurately targets the tadpole you're looking at.
- It is not advisable to run this datapack with SpaceFrog's Forever Young Tadpoles datapack. While not game-breaking, the core leashing mechanism of the Pet Tadpoles datapack uses a slime ball, but slime balls also generate duplicate ageless tadpoles with the Forever Young Tadpoles datapack. You'll just be left with a lot of pet tadpoles you might not want.
