FINALLY! Place items on slabs!
Hang lanterns from slabs! Stack blocks on slabs! Stack blocks on those blocks on those slabs!* Your slabs finally get the love they deserve 💖
*Slabbed is still in beta. Expect some rough edges while it continues to improve and expand.
✨ New in Beta 4
Slabbed 0.2.0-beta.4 is a major interaction-stability update.
This release improves targeting, hitboxes, visual contact, placement acceptance, and server-side interaction for many common slab-supported building objects. A lot of previously cursed behavior — "the object looks like it's there, but Minecraft thinks it's somewhere else" — has been cleaned up.
Big improvements landed for:
- Compound slab → block → slab → block structures
- Reduction in the dreaded ghosts (culled block faces)! 👻
- Torches, candles, lanterns, chains
- Flower pots
- Buttons, trapdoors, doors, fence gates
- Fences and walls
- Stairs and ordinary blocks in audited slab-supported setups
This doesn't mean every item and block is fully covered — it means these common building cases got the most direct testing and stabilization work this beta.
🧱 What Slabbed does
In vanilla Minecraft, slabs are awkward supports. Objects look like they should sit on them, attach to them, or interact with them — but the game's placement and hitbox rules disagree.
Slabbed makes those situations feel consistent:
- Objects sit on slab-supported surfaces more naturally.
- Supported objects visually land where they actually are.
- The crosshair targets the visible object instead of the wrong support block.
- Common building objects behave sensibly around lowered slab structures.
- Less floating, snapping, ghosting, and interaction mismatch.
The long-term goal is broad slab support, but Slabbed expands carefully — category by category, by proven behavior.
⚠️ Still rough
These categories haven't gotten focused work yet and may misbehave:
- Glass panes and bars
- Carpets and other thin top layers
- Rails and redstone
- Signs and specialized attachments
- Custom slabs and heavily custom modded blocks
- Certain unusual slab-placement edge cases
There's also a known slab lane-grammar issue where some placement or break neighbor updates can visually re-resolve lowered slab lanes in specific stacked builds. It's tracked separately from per-block fixes.
If something looks wrong, it probably is — and it's probably worth reporting.
Compatibility
- Minecraft 1.21.11
- Fabric + Fabric API
- Singleplayer and server-side
Mods that heavily customize block shapes, rendering, collision, placement, or models may need dedicated compatibility work. Countered's Terrain Slabs is not yet compatible, but it will be addressed in a future update!!
🐛 Reporting bugs
Bug reports are super duper helpful! The most useful ones include:
- Minecraft, Slabbed, Fabric Loader, and Fabric API versions
- Other installed mods
- Exact placement steps + what you expected vs. what actually happened
- A short screenshot or video — especially of the crosshair, placement attempt, or visual mismatch
🛠️ What's next
- More supported object categories, added carefully
- Tighter agreement between visuals, outlines, and raycasts
- Remaining slab-lane edge cases
- Better compatibility with modded blocks
- Fewer ghost blocks and wrong-target moments
- The much asked-for ports!! MC 1.21.1 is currently in the works :)
Slabbed's goal is simple:
Things should sit where they look like they sit.
Minecraft just makes that surprisingly complicated.
💖 Thanks!
Slabbed is made by one person and is still actively evolving. Every bug report, screenshot, video, and weird edge case helps make slab-supported building better. Thank you for playing with Slabbed and helping me make it what it is!
