Brief Intro
RCVR3 (Expanded) is an expanded fork of Ryan Clifford's original modpack that transforms Minecraft into an absolutely GORGEOUS VR Experience. It's primarily vanilla with additions to make the game render far, be well optimized and run on most computers. It had some room for improvement so I got permission from Ryan Clifford to upload a fork! You can find his channel here.
The original modpack aimed for 4 main things:
- It aimed to be vanilla+ just as its predecessors.
- Add more mods to improve the VR Experience
- Increase the render distance to a vast horizon to encourge you (the player) to explore
- Make the experience/modpack as satistying as possible
However, I decided to build on top of that! I've curated some less "vanilla+" features to make the experience truly breathtaking with some tweaks to the original mod for Quality of Life. Please be sure to check out the original first for the best optimization techniques and options and most importantly, to support Ryan Cliffords efforts to make a truly breathtaking modpack.
Setup Tutorial
I have made a setup guide which can be found below <3
Basic Info
The original was more centered around Singleplayer with no real way to enjoy it with your friends, so we've changed that! This fork is mainly centered around multiplayer but has plenty more to offer than just that. I aimed for a few things to truly add that cherry on top:
- Multiplayer focused to bring friend groups together.
- Better QoL and changes to make the VR experience easier for extended periods of time.
- More additions for exploration, building, community & teamwork.
- Cosmetic choices to add the little finishing touches on top of the beauty of the original.
- Fun MP additions to add more build ideas and to encourage playing with friends.
- Even more interactivity with the environment than what's already provided.
Features range from tweaks to the original that improve quality of life to additions to make gameplay more interesting through making building fun and exciting, making your projects feel warmer and more decorated with furniture and fixtures, adding more food sources and items, adding extra quality of life features, making loot "per player instance", adding backpacks to help with inventory management, adding a better option for storage management at your base, multiplayer and much more! 💖
NOTE: I included e4mc as the main multiplayer mod, however this doesn't work great with the Simple Voice Chat mod. If you prefer Essential it's easy to swap e4mc out. Why not include it in the modpack? I don't like Essential much for a variety of reasons and e4mc made the most sense to add. It's quick, easy and lightweight even if a little unorthodox.
Notable Tweaks
The original project is truly beautiful and makes MCVR so incredibly interesting, exciting and satisfying to play, however, it had a few things to improve on. I have swapped out a few mods and tweaked some settings to make the game fun but more bearable to play in the long run.
ImmersiveMC
First things first! I felt that ImmersiveMC is definitely a perfect addition to the modpack but became very cumbersome and even straight up annoying in the long run so I made some tweaks to the configs. I found that the Anvil, Backpack, Barrel, Beacon, Chest, Enchanting Table, Furnace, Hopper, Shulker Box and Smithing Table immersives often got in the way rather than being helpful and fun so I disabled them. This is easily tweaked by going to Mods > ImmersiveMC > Enable/Disable Immersives.
Tree Felling
Next up is the tree chopping mod Ryan included. The mod made the trees fall over using falling blocks which looked really cool when chopping trees down and certainly was a cool concept but it came with some challenges. Gathering wood is exhausting and I found that I actively avoided doing it as much as possible, not to mention the GLARING issue. While playing the modpack with a few friends we discovered that it works on more than just trees. Someone had built their house using logs and planks and another tree having grown nearby with the leaves touching the logs posed a massive problem. That friend went to break a log and the entire top half of their house ended up just falling over. Hilarious but infuriating! We ended up replacing this mod for Falling Tree as it's much more reliable and easier to be careful with, with the added bonus of making gathering would less painful.
Voice Chat
The other thing included to the original modpack was Plasmo Voice. It's definitely not a bad voice chat mod at all and certainly was easy to set up but had some kinks that made it less appealing. The biggest thing I noticed is that it's VERY quiet, like, veeery quiet. I had to turn up so many volume sliders to make people more intelligible but even still they were too quiet, especially since the falloff distance is so low. People faded out too quickly (even from 8 blocks away) and weren't even affected by the Sound Physics Remastered mod! I replaced this for Simple Voice Chat as it works well with Essential, is louder, better configured and has great interactivity. I even added another mod that makes it interact with the Warden and Sculk Sensors/Shriekers. Good luck down in the Deep Dark <3
