Welcome to Thorn's Vanilla+, a meticulously crafted Fabric modpack designed to elevate the classic Minecraft experience without losing the core charm of the game. Built for performance, immersion, and subtle quality-of-life enhancements, this pack bridges the gap between traditional gameplay and next-generation visual and audio design.
Features
🌌 Visuals & Atmosphere
Minecraft has never looked or felt this alive. Every aspect of the environment has been enhanced to draw you deeper into your world.
- Distant Horizons: Renders breathtaking, simplified terrain far past your standard render distance, letting you see mountains and biomes miles away.
- Iris Shaders: Powered by Complementary Shaders (Unbound) and Euphoria Patcher, delivering realistic lighting, reflections, and atmospheric effects.
- Fresh Animations & EMF/ETF: Breathes life into the game's creatures with fluid, expressive mob animations and dynamic texture features.
- Immersive Weather & Effects: Watch cave dust dance in light shafts, see real rain ripples, and enjoy custom cloud formations.
🎵 Rich Audio Overhaul
The world sounds as vibrant as it looks. Your surroundings react dynamically to your movements and local ecosystems.
- AmbientSounds & Presence Footsteps: Fills the world with rich, biome-specific background audio and satisfyingly varied footstep acoustics based on the block you walk on.
- Gentler Weather Sounds: Softens harsh thunderstorms and rain for a cozier audio experience.
⚡ Peak Optimization
Say goodbye to stuttering and low framerates. This pack incorporates standard-setting performance engines alongside modern memory fixes to ensure your game runs as smoothly as possible.
- Lithium & FerriteCore: Reduces memory usage and optimizes world physics and chunk processing.
- ImmediatelyFast & Entity Culling: Speeds up rendering by omitting objects and entities outside your direct line of sight.
- ModernFix & BadOptimizations: Fine-tunes under-the-hood engine code to maximize stability and hardware utilization.
- Concurrent Chunk Management Engine (CCME): Multithreads world loading so you can explore without the lag spikes.
⚙️ Quality of Life (QoL) & UI
Small adjustments make a massive difference. Enjoy a seamless, less tedious gameplay experience that respects your time.
- Easy Elytra Takeoff: Jump and fly effortlessly without struggling with firework timing.
- Easy Shulker Boxes & Peek: Inspect your inventory and storage contents without needing to place them on the ground.
- Auto HUD & BetterF3: Keeps your screen clean by hiding UI elements when you don't need them and organizes debug data cleanly when you do.
- Cherished Worlds: Bookmark and protect your favorite single-player worlds from accidental deletion.
Recommended Settings
To get the absolute best balance of breathtaking visuals and smooth performance, I recommend configuring your settings as follows:
🌍 Distant Horizons (LODs)
- Render Distance: Set your vanilla Minecraft render distance to 12-16 chunks. Let Distant Horizons handle the rest.
- LOD Radius: Set to 64 or 128 chunks. This gives you massive sweeping vistas without killing your CPU.
- CPU Load Preset: Set to Balanced or I-have-a-good-CPU for background chunk generation.
🎨 Shaders (Iris)
- Shader Pack: Enable Complementary Shaders - Unbound.
- Profile: Medium or High provides the best balance. The Euphoria Patches add incredible custom effects automatically, so you don't need to max out the shader settings manually to get a next-gen look.
⚙️ Performance & Memory
- Allocated RAM: I recommend allocating 4GB to 6GB of RAM in your Modrinth Launcher settings. Thanks to FerriteCore and Lithium, this pack does not need massive amounts of memory.
Q&A / Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why are chunks missing or blinking in the distance?
A: Distant Horizons takes a little bit of time to build its Level of Detail (LOD) files when you enter a new area. Stand still for a minute or explore a bit, and the mod will automatically save and remember the terrain.
Q: How do I open the Mod Configuration menu?
A: Press Escape and click on the Mods button (powered by Mod Menu) to customize individual settings for things like AmbientSounds, Auto HUD, and MiniHUD.
Q: I'm getting lower FPS than expected. What should I change?
A: First, try turning your Distant Horizons CPU preset to Balanced or Minimal. If you are still struggling, open your Shader settings and switch the profile from Unbound's style settings down to a lower profile template.
