Reel Deal 🧰
‼️ Important
Reel Deal is a data-pack that relies on a mandatory resource-pack. The latter may be found on the bottom of the page of the version you wish to download. When installing the project as a mod, the resource-pack will be bundled in the JAR file.
Fishing has historically been a notoriously monotone activity, with little to no progression. Reel Deal takes the already well-known to the community idea of rod parts and incorporates them in a data-pack.
Unlike most other fishing-related projects, the act of catching a fish isn't being changed. You still enjoy the vanilla fishing experience, just with a little more shine to it.
⚙️ Getting Started
The basic rod parts needed to get you going in the Woven Line and the Iron Hook. Craft the Woven Line out of 2x strings and a stick, and the Iron Hook out of an iron ingot and a nugget.
You may then upgrade your line to Reinforced Line with 8 iron nuggets, or just continue fishing – that's how you obtain the rest.
Rod Parts 🪝
A single fishing rod is constructed out of three parts: A line, a hook, and three whole sticks. In order to not overcomplicate things – which some of us, developers, love doing – the line serves always a single purpose: it determines the size of the catch, and therefore follows a linear progression. A line is strictly better than the previous, isn't that neat?
Hooks, on the other hand, is where you get creative. Each one has a unique ability that applies on any rod with that hook. Among others, they include the Golden Hook, which increases your odds at catching treasure, the Cluster Hook, which lets you catch minerals underground, or even the Anchor Hook which lets you catch fish alive.
| Hook | How to Obtain |
|---|---|
| Wooden | Junk Catch |
| Iron | Crafting Table |
| Cluster | Treasure Catch (Underground, y <= 48) |
| Anchor | Treasure Catch (Ocean) |
| Golden | Treasure Catch (Anywhere else) |
Junk 'n Treasure
Once upon a time, in the version 1.14, Mojang has added bamboo as a junk catch in jungle biomes. One would assume that should have marked an introduction of biome-specific junk to other biomes too, but nothing followed.
Luckily, we aren't Mojang. So we took this idea and ran with it. Reel Deal introduces biome-specific junk loot tables, but also modifies the treasure loot table to be more inline with the modern game.
| Biome | Junk |
|---|---|
| Everywhere | Leather, Bones, Sticks and Clayballs |
| Badlands | Gold Nuggets and Flint |
| Birch Forest | Honeycombs |
| Cold Biomes | Rabbit Hides, Rabbit Feet, Snow Balls and Ice |
| Dark Forest | Red and Brown Mushrooms and Emeralds |
| Desert | Dead Bushes, Rabbit Hides, and Short and Tall Dry Grass |
| Flower Forest | Small flowers |
| Jungle | Bamboo, Cocoa Beans and Melon Slices |
| Oceans | Kelp and Ink Sacs |
| Warm Oceans | Sea Pickles and Corals |
| Pale Garden | Resin Clumps |
| Rivers | Bone Meal, Sugar Cane and Ink Sacs |
