📖 Overview
BalancedCraftingRecipes is a vanilla-compatible data pack (no mods required) that reworks dozens of crafting recipes around a single idea: nothing should be a dead end. Misplaced a dye? Re-dye the block. Over-built with slabs? Turn them back into planks. Got a worn-out anvil or a low-tier tool? Upgrade it at the smithing table instead of starting over. Found a rare pottery sherd? Duplicate it.
Every change keeps the vanilla feel — recipes stay intuitive and roughly cost-fair — while cutting out the busywork and the resource bleed that vanilla crafting often forces on you.
✨ Features
- ♻️ Recycle blocks back into materials — Turn any copper block variant (waxed, oxidized, cut, chiseled, grate — every state) back into 9 copper ingots. Smelt iron/gold blocks and other items back into their base resources.
- 🔄 Reverse crafting — Convert slabs, stairs, walls, fences, doors, buttons, and glass panes back into the block or planks they came from. No more being stuck with the wrong shape.
- ⚒️ Smithing-table gear upgrade tree — Promote tools and armor through tiers at the smithing table (e.g. stone → copper → … → diamond) instead of re-crafting from scratch. Includes anvil repair (damaged → chipped → anvil).
- 🪓 Stonecutter, now for wood & more — Use the stonecutter to cut logs into planks, slabs, stairs, doors, signs, and to turn raw deepslate into bricks/tiles/cobbled variants. Far less waste than the crafting grid.
- 🎨 Universal dyeing (8× output) — Re-dye any color of wool, carpet, bed, banner, concrete, concrete powder, terracotta, glazed terracotta, stained glass, glass panes, and bundles into another color — 8 at a time. Wrong-colored blocks are never garbage again.
- 📦 One-step & bulk crafting — Craft chest boats straight from planks + a chest, make chest/furnace/hopper/TNT minecarts in one step, and produce colored beds, banners, bundles, and carpets directly. Plus bulk recipes like 16 sticks from logs, 4 paper from a filled map, and a 4× beehive.
- 💎 Duplicate rare items — Surround a pottery sherd with bricks to get 4 copies, and craft armor-trim smithing templates (×2) so you never permanently lose one.
- 🧰 Quality-of-life extras — Craftable tinted glass from any glass + amethyst, a cheaper lodestone, a new stone spear, ice ⇄ packed ice ⇄ blue ice conversions, and more.
💡 The recurring theme: if vanilla makes you re-grind, re-gather, or discard — this pack gives you a sensible recipe instead.

⚙️ Compatibility
- Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.9+ (pack format 88–95)
- Environment: Works on both single-player and servers
- Mods: None required — fully vanilla. Compatible with most resource/data packs.
- Heads-up: Because this pack overrides some vanilla recipe files, it may conflict with other datapacks that change the same recipes. If two packs edit the same recipe, load order decides which one wins.
❓ FAQ
Do I need Fabric, Forge, or any mod?
No. It's a pure data pack and runs on unmodified Minecraft.
Will it break my existing world or recipes?
It only adds or overrides crafting/smithing/stonecutting recipes — it doesn't touch your blocks, items, or saves. You can remove it at any time with /datapack disable.
Does it work on older versions like 1.20?
No. It targets 1.21.9 and newer (it relies on recent items such as copper tools/armor and shelves). Older versions use a different pack format.
Can I use it in a modpack on Modrinth?
Yes — you may include this pack in any Modrinth modpack, as long as you credit the original page.
