VexMechanic
Plugin for Paper 1.21.11 (Java 21+): long nights, Vexes only in the wilderness, and the Talisman of Fear.
ABOUT THE PLUGIN
VexMechanic makes nights long and truly dangerous. Vexes now spawn on their own — but only in the wilderness and only in the dark. They hunt players, cannot pass through walls, and burn at dawn. Light, walls, a bed, and the Talisman of Fear will help you survive.
WHAT THE PLUGIN DOES
DAY AND NIGHT Day lasts 20 minutes, night lasts 1 hour (real time, all configurable). The plugin manages game time itself. You can sleep through the night in a bed — sleeping immediately skips to morning. Time moves smoothly, without sky jumps.
VEXES Previously Vexes could only be encountered near an Evoker — now they spawn on their own at night. They only spawn in the wilderness: there must be no player buildings nearby (within a 48-block radius of any block placed by a player) and no "unnatural" blocks (planks, cobblestone, glass, torches, crafting tables, chests, villages, mines, etc.). They won't appear near a house, base, or village, but in a deep forest — easily. They only spawn in darkness: where there is light from blocks (torch, lantern, lava) — no spawning will occur. They don't spawn closer than 24 blocks to a player and no more than 8 near one player. They hunt players: they find a target and pursue it.
THEY DON'T PASS THROUGH WALLS The plugin disables the vanilla Vex "dash" (the very thing that lets it fly through blocks) and removes the noPhysics flag from the entity. Every tick the Vex is checked: if it ends up inside a block — it is returned to the last safe position. If a Vex gets stuck in a wall for 10 seconds — it disappears with a puff of smoke.
TALISMAN OF FEAR Obtain the item: /vexmechanic give (or /vexmechanic give Nick). A regular head (Head ID: 3109) with the name "Талисман страха".
Place the head on a pillar of 2 fences (2 fences high, any kind) — the talisman "comes alive": changes texture to Head ID: 3108, a light block appears above it, within a 20-block radius no Vexes or hostile mobs spawn, Vexes fear the talisman and do not target players in this zone. The talisman is not destroyed by explosions or pistons.
Take the head back (break it) — the texture returns to normal (3109), the power disappears until the next placement on 2 fences.
HOW TO SURVIVE VEXES
- Light. Torches, lanterns, campfires, lava — where there is light from blocks, Vexes don't spawn.
- Walls. A Vex cannot pass through doors or walls: a house is a reliable shelter.
- Talisman of Fear. A 20-block zone where Vexes don't spawn and are afraid to fly near.
- Bed. Sleep — and the night ends immediately.
- Wait out the dawn. At sunrise Vexes catch fire and die.
INSTALLATION
- Put VexMechanic-1.0.0.jar into the plugins/ folder.
- Restart the server (requires Paper 1.21.11 and Java 21+).
- Configure plugins/VexMechanic/config.yml — it has Russian comments for everything.
COMMANDS
/vexmechanic reload — reload the config /vexmechanic give [nick] — give the Talisman of Fear /vexmechanic spawn [n] — manually spawn Vexes (for testing) /vexmechanic talismans — list active talismans /vexmechanic purge — remove all Vexes /vexmechanic info — plugin state (time, phase, counters) /vexmechanic selftest — test the talisman's operation
Permissions: vexmechanic.admin — operator by default vexmechanic.bypass.build — player buildings don't protect the territory

CRAFTING VIA ANOTHER PLUGIN
The talisman item is recognized by head texture, name, or the lore line "Head ID: 3109". In a crafting plugin it's enough to give the same head:
/give @p minecraft:player_head[minecraft:custom_name={text:"Талисман страха",color:"gold",underlined:true,bold:true,italic:false},minecraft:lore=[{text:"Head ID: 3109",color:"gray",italic:false},{text:"mcheads.ru",color:"blue",italic:false}],profile={properties:[{name:"textures",value:"eyJ0ZXh0dXJlcyI6eyJTS0lOIjp7InVybCI6Imh0dHA6Ly90ZXh0dXJlcy5taW5lY3JhZnQubmV0L3RleHR1cmUvZjgyMjAyODJmMmVlNTk5NTExYjRmYzc0NjExMWM5NzM2ZDdiNDkxZThiY2ZiNjQ4YThhMTU2MjkyODFlZTUifX19"}]}] 1
If the crafting plugin can only set its own model (ItemsAdder, MMOItems, etc.), enable talisman.identify.by-name / by-lore in the config — then the name "Талисман страха" or the line "Head ID: 3109" in the lore is enough.
