PvP Chunk Manager
Per-chunk PvP control for Fabric servers. Mark chunks where the vanilla PvP gamerule is inverted, tag players in combat, and stop them from escaping the fight by running away, pearling out, or logging out.
What the mod does
Exempt chunks
Use the PvP Chunk Tool (a Diamond Hoe named "PvP Chunk Tool") to toggle chunks where PvP rules are inverted:
- When the vanilla
pvpgamerule is on, PvP damage is blocked if the attacker or the target stands in an exempt chunk. - When the vanilla
pvpgamerule is off, PvP damage is allowed only when both players stand in exempt chunks (team and friendly-fire rules are respected where supported).
Combat tag
Hitting another player tags both the attacker and the target for a configurable duration (combat_tag_duration). Every new hit refreshes the tag.
Border enforcement
While tagged, a player may not move more than pvp_border_distance chunks away from their anchor (the last exempt chunk they stood in, or the chunk where combat started when no exempt chunks are used). Leaving the allowed radius triggers the configured escape action on every tick until the player is back inside:
INVISIBLE_WALL(default): pushes the player back to the border, acting like an invisible wall around the anchor.TELEPORT_BACK: teleports the player to the center of the anchor chunk.KILL: kills the player.
Teleports resolve a safe surface position via heightmap lookup, so players are never placed inside or under blocks.
Ender pearl block
Ender pearls thrown during combat that would land outside the allowed radius are discarded, so pearls cannot be used to escape.
Anti-logout
Disconnecting while combat-tagged drops the player's entire inventory on the ground at their position and clears all combat state. Logging out to avoid death costs the player their items.
Death reset
Dying from any cause clears all combat tracking (anchor position, combat tag, attacker record), so border enforcement resets on respawn.
Admin options (26.3 build)
The chunk-tool command, the reload command, and physical tool use can be restricted to operators with a configurable permission level (tool_requires_op, reload_requires_op, op_permission_level).
Installation
- Install Fabric Loader and Fabric API for your Minecraft version.
- Download the file matching your Minecraft version (1.21.x, 26.1.x, 26.2 or 26.3) and place it in the
modsfolder. - Start the server once to generate
config/pvp_chunks.json. - Mark your zones with
/pvpzone hoe, tune the settings, then run/pvpzone reload.
Setting up a PvP zone
- Decide the base behaviour with the vanilla
pvpgamerule. - Run
/pvpzone hoeto receive the chunk tool. - Right-click a block in each chunk you want to exempt. The change is saved to the config file immediately and a chat message confirms it.
- Edit
pvp_border_distance,combat_tag_durationandaction_on_escapeinconfig/pvp_chunks.jsonif needed, then run/pvpzone reloadto apply.
