BunnyHop brings the movement mechanics of Source Engine games (Counter-Strike, Half-Life) and Quake into Minecraft: chain jumps without losing speed and control your direction in the air with strafes.
✨ Key Features
- 🌪️ Air Strafing: Physics based on the classic Source Engine air-acceleration algorithm. Simply running forward and jumping (
W + Space) won't make you faster — release the forward key, strafe in the air (AorD) and smoothly turn your mouse in the same direction. - 🐇 Auto-BHop: No need to time your jumps. Hold Space and you jump again the moment you land. Turn it off in the config if you want to time jumps yourself — then holding Space gives only one jump, and you press it again for each next jump.
- ⚡ No Landing Friction: While you strafe (
AorDheld) with Space held, block friction is skipped both on landing and on take-off, so your horizontal speed carries into the next jump without loss. Plain running forward with jumps is as fast as in vanilla. - 📊 Speedometer (HUD): Shows your horizontal speed in blocks per second (
b/s) right above the hotbar, with a colored speed bar:- 💎 Blue (up to 5.6 b/s) — walking & sprinting.
- 🟢 Green (5.6 – 10 b/s) — bunnyhopping. With default settings a good strafe rhythm holds about 9 b/s, while vanilla sprint-jumping shows about 6 b/s.
- 🟡 / 🔴 Gold / Red — only reachable if you raise
Wishspeed/Air Acceleratein the config.
- ⚙️ In-Game Configuration (Cloth Config & ModMenu): With ModMenu installed, open the mod's settings from the mods list to:
- Enable or disable BunnyHop, Auto-BHop, Air Strafe or the speedometer.
- Adjust the air strafe speed limit per tick (
Wishspeed). - Adjust the air acceleration rate (
Air Accelerate). - Set the horizontal speed retention multiplier on landing and take-off (
Speed Retention).
- 🤝 Client & Server: Works in singleplayer and multiplayer. For multiplayer, install the mod on both the server and the client so movement is calculated the same way on both sides.
🎮 How to Strafe?
- Take a short run-up.
- Jump and release the forward key (
W). - Hold the left strafe key (
A) while smoothly turning your mouse to the left. - Upon landing (keep holding Space for Auto-BHop), switch to the right strafe key (
D) while smoothly turning your mouse to the right. - Repeat the left/right cycles and keep the speedometer in the green zone.
🛠️ Requirements
- Minecraft: 1.21.8, 1.21.4, 1.21.1, 1.21, 1.20.6, 1.20.4, 1.20.1, 1.19.4, 1.18.2, 1.16.5
- Mod Loader: Fabric
- Dependencies: Fabric API (Cloth Config is already bundled inside the mod jar).
- Optional: ModMenu (to open the configuration menu from the mods list).
- Java: 8+ for 1.16.5, 17+ for 1.18.2 – 1.20.4, 21+ for 1.20.6 and newer (your launcher usually handles this).
📝 Changelog 1.0.2
- The Auto-BHop toggle now works: with Auto-BHop off, holding Space gives one jump; press again for the next one.
- Running forward with jumps (
W + Space) is now as fast as in vanilla — speed is gained only by strafing. - Standing on the ground with Space held (e.g. under a ceiling) no longer removes ground friction.
📝 Changelog 1.0.1
- Fixed a crash on startup in 1.16.5 and 1.18.2.
- 1.16.5: now runs on Java 8 and correctly detects Fabric API.
- Fixed ~45% speed loss on every jump (block friction on the take-off tick).
- All versions rebuilt against the correct Fabric API and Cloth Config for their Minecraft version.
- Added a build for Minecraft 1.21.
