Librarian Insight
Librarian Insight makes working with Minecraft Librarians easier, clearer, and more informative without changing vanilla trading mechanics.
See a Librarian's enchanted book trade directly on their lectern, inspect their current trades, compare prices, browse everything Librarians can potentially sell, and learn what's happening behind the scenes with villager pricing, restocks, reputation, and more.
Instead of repeatedly opening trading menus or checking a wiki, Librarian Insight puts the information where you actually need it.
📖 See Librarian Trades on Lecterns
The feature that started it all.
Librarian Insight displays a Librarian's enchanted book trade directly on their lectern, allowing you to check a Librarian without repeatedly opening their trading screen.
The lectern display can show:
- Full enchantment name and level
- Current emerald price
- Emerald and Book item icons
- Customizable text colors
- Optional price display
Long enchantment names automatically scale and wrap to remain readable.
🔍 Librarian Information Menu
Right-click an empty Librarian lectern to open the Librarian Insight interface.
Rather than presenting everything as a giant wall of text, the interface uses Minecraft item icons, clickable trades, tooltips, scrolling, and a Minecraft-inspired design to make Librarian information easy to explore.
From here, you can inspect the Librarian currently assigned to the lectern, browse possible trades, check prices, and view detailed villager information.
📚 Current Librarian
See the Librarian's known trades directly from their lectern.
Librarian Insight can show:
- Trade inputs and outputs
- Current prices
- Trade availability
- Vanilla minimum prices
- Enchanted book information
For applicable trades, Librarian Insight can compare the price you're currently being offered against the lowest price that trade could naturally generate at in vanilla Minecraft.
This makes it much easier to tell whether you've found a good trade without memorizing price ranges or checking a wiki.
🎲 Possible Librarian Trades
Want to know what a Librarian can potentially offer?
Browse possible Librarian trades by profession level:
- Novice
- Apprentice
- Journeyman
- Expert
- Master
Trades are displayed using clickable Minecraft item icons.
Select a trade to see additional information about it, including vanilla pricing.
Enchanted books also have their own detailed browser where you can inspect enchantments, available levels, and minimum natural prices.
❤️ Villager Status
In single-player, Librarian Insight can access Minecraft's integrated server to provide significantly more information about the Librarian assigned to a lectern.
This can include:
- Villager health
- Exact lectern ownership
- Current activity
- Restock status
- Restocks used and remaining
- Available and exhausted trades
- Profession level and XP
- Player reputation/standing
- Whether reputation is helping or hurting prices
- Hero of the Village information
- Detailed trade price adjustments
The Status screen is designed to translate these mechanics into understandable, player-friendly information while still providing additional details for players who want to dig deeper.
🔗 Exact Lectern Association
In single-player, Librarian Insight can determine the actual Librarian assigned to a lectern using Minecraft's workstation data.
Once a Librarian has been associated with a lectern, their trade information can remain displayed even when they:
- Walk away
- Go to sleep
- Wander outside the immediate area
This makes the lectern itself a reliable way to identify and inspect its Librarian.
In multiplayer environments where authoritative workstation information isn't available to the client, Librarian Insight gracefully falls back to its client-side association system.
💰 Understand Librarian Prices
Villager pricing can involve considerably more than the number shown in the trading screen.
Depending on the information available, Librarian Insight can show:
- Current price
- Originally rolled/base price
- Lowest possible natural vanilla price
- Demand adjustments
- Reputation effects
- Hero of the Village effects
- Other or unknown adjustments when applicable
Librarian Insight does not modify any of these values. It simply exposes and explains the information.
✨ Enchanted Book Information
Enchanted book trades receive additional information designed specifically for Librarians.
You can inspect enchantments, levels, prices, and compare a book's current price against the lowest natural price available for that enchantment and level.
This makes it much easier to decide whether to keep a Librarian or continue searching for another trade.
🛒 Vanilla Trading Screen Integration
You don't have to stay inside the Librarian Insight menu.
Useful Librarian Insight pricing information is also integrated directly into Minecraft's normal Librarian trading screen.
This allows you to compare a trade's current price against its natural vanilla minimum while using the normal trading interface.
🎨 Customization
Librarian Insight includes several options for changing how it looks and behaves:
- Light Mode
- Dark Mode
- Custom lectern text colors
- Optional lectern price display
- Persistent settings
- Client-side commands for quick configuration
Light Mode is the default and is designed to fit naturally alongside Minecraft's existing interfaces.
⚙️ Vanilla Mechanics Stay Vanilla
Librarian Insight is an informational utility.
It does not:
- Reroll trades
- Modify trade RNG
- Change prices
- Force restocks
- Modify villager reputation
- Change villager AI
- Unlock hidden trades
- Give items
- Automate trading
The goal is to make Minecraft's existing Librarian mechanics easier to understand and interact with while leaving the actual gameplay mechanics untouched.
🖥️ Single-Player First
Librarian Insight is designed primarily for single-player worlds and is distributed as one normal Fabric mod.
Simply install the mod and play.
No separate server plugin or second download is required to access its full single-player functionality.
In multiplayer, features that can operate using information available to the client continue to work, while features requiring authoritative server-side villager information may be limited.
💡 Why Librarian Insight?
Minecraft Librarians have a surprising amount happening behind the scenes: randomized trades, price ranges, workstation ownership, restocking, demand, reputation, discounts, profession levels, and more.
Most of that information is either hidden from the player or requires outside resources to understand.
Librarian Insight brings that information together in one place while keeping the underlying vanilla mechanics completely untouched.
