Explosion Durability
Block Durability v2.0.0 connects explosion damage to block health. Blocks in the configured whitelist can take durability damage based on their distance from an explosion, visibly crack, and eventually break.
- TaCZ explosions: RPGs, grenades, and other TaCZ explosions can deal durability damage to whitelisted blocks in range, including explosions that normally leave terrain unchanged.
- Vanilla and other explosions: TNT and creepers keep their original direct-destruction behavior. Whitelisted blocks that survive the initial explosion can continue taking distance-based durability damage.
- Cover: solid collision shapes between the explosion and a block can block the durability damage.
- Configurable: explosion damage, scanning radius, vanilla-explosion support, block whitelist, and block HP are configurable.
Only whitelisted blocks are affected. The final result depends on block hardness, HP overrides, explosion position, and the configured damage multiplier.
Obsidian Can Be Destroyed
Obsidian does not need to be assigned a fixed HP value. Its HP can be calculated from its vanilla hardness:
Block HP = max(minBlockHP, vanilla hardness × hardnessMultiplier)
Obsidian has a vanilla hardness of 50. With hardnessMultiplier = 3.0, its calculated HP is:
max(1.0, 50 × 3.0) = 150 HP
This example also requires adding obsidian to the whitelist:
[whitelist]
blockWhitelist = [
"minecraft:obsidian"
]
[hp_calculation]
minBlockHP = 1.0
hardnessMultiplier = 3.0
blockHPOverrides = []
At 150 HP, it takes roughly 20 to 30 Create cannon high-explosive shells to break obsidian. The actual number depends on impact position, explosion radius, damage multiplier, and other configuration values.
The multiplier applies to other blocks calculated from hardness as well. Adjust it according to your server or modpack's balance.
Dependencies
| Minecraft | Loader | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1.21.1 | NeoForge 21.1.80+ | Main release |
| 1.20.1 | Forge 47.3.0+ | Forge release |
TaCZ is optional. When TaCZ is installed, bullet hits and TaCZ explosions can use the durability system. Without TaCZ, Block Durability continues to work with vanilla and other mod explosions.
Features
- Whitelist support for block tags, exact block IDs, and
*wildcards. - Block HP calculated from vanilla hardness, with optional per-block overrides.
- Explosion damage attenuation based on distance.
- Crack stages, particles, and hit sounds.
- Damaged blocks recover after 120 seconds by default.
- Healing time can be changed with
/gamerule blockDurabilityHealSeconds <seconds>.
Configuration
The server config is generated at config/blockdurability-common.toml:
[general]
enabled = true
damagePerHit = 1.0
useBulletDamage = false
bulletDamageMultiplier = 1.0
[explosion]
enabled = true
damageMultiplier = 1.0
maxRadius = 16.0
handleVanillaExplosions = true
[healing]
healTimeoutSeconds = 120
[effects]
spawnBreakParticles = true
playBreakSound = true
dropItems = false
Block HP is calculated from vanilla hardness by default:
[hp_calculation]
hardnessMultiplier = 1.5
minBlockHP = 1.0
blockHPOverrides = []
Use blockHPOverrides only when a specific block needs a fixed HP value instead of the hardness formula.
