NeoShaders
A shader pack I made because most packs either looked great and ran terribly on my MacBook, or ran fine and looked flat. NeoShaders is built around the MacBook Neo (Apple A18 Pro) but it runs on anything that can run Iris, and the higher presets are there if you have a stronger GPU.
Features
- Soft sun and moon shadows, with tinted shadows through stained glass
- Colored block light. Torches glow orange, soul fire is blue, redstone is red, amethyst is purple, and so on
- Holding a torch lights up the area around you
- Real looking sunsets, a moon with phases, stars, and clouds that cast shadows on the ground
- God rays
- Clear water with waves, reflections, refraction and caustics underneath
- Waving grass, crops and leaves
- Bloom, anti-aliasing and a few tonemapping styles to pick from
- Custom lighting and fog for the Nether and the End
Presets
- Potato: no shadows, for older or slower Macs
- Low: shadows and colored light kept, the heavier stuff turned off
- Neo: the default, tuned for the MacBook Neo
- High: for desktop GPUs and the bigger M-series chips
- Ultra: everything maxed, mostly for screenshots
There are also around 50 individual settings if you want to tweak things yourself.
Requirements
- Iris and Sodium
- Works on macOS, Windows and Linux
Tips
Shadow Distance is the setting that matters most for FPS. If the game feels slow, lower that before anything else.
Known issues
- Light sources like torches and glowstone don't cast sun shadows while colored lighting is on
- Colored light can bleed slightly through walls. The brightness is still blocked, just not the color
- Particles behind water get hidden by the water surface
If you find a bug, open an issue on GitHub and include your preset and a screenshot if you can.
