Index Title Art

Index is a resource pack that gives enchanted books the love they deserve. The aim is to make the books far more intuitive allowing for players to determine the type of book or tool set a book can be used on.

The goal is simple: you should never have to hover over a book to get an idea of what it does.

What Index Does:

Index replaces the default enchanted book texture system with a structured, readable visual index (hence the name).
Each book’s appearance reflects what kind of enchantments it contains, whether it’s a single enchant, a stacked tool specific enchant book, or a mixed combination.

This pack is purely visual and does NOT affect gameplay, balance, or mechanics in any way.

Core Features

  • Unique colors for group categories:

    • Each enchanted book has a primary band color representing its compatable tool set.
    • Primary Weapons (Swords and Axes), Foraging Tools (Pickaxes, Shovels, Hoes), Tridents, Maces, armor, etc.

  • Unique single enchantment icons:

    • All single enchantment books have an icon denoting that book and ONLY that book
    • This makes books easy to distingush simply by looking at them.

  • Stacked visuals for multi-enchantment books

    • Books with multiple compatible enchantments gain a layered “stacked” appearance. It does not have a enchantment specific icon but rather takes the color of the category it's made for.
    • This makes upgraded or combined books obvious at a glance.

  • Smart grouping rules

    • Books only gain a group appearance if all enchantments belong to the same category
    • Neutral enchants (like Mending and Unbreaking) can apply without redefining the group
    • Mixed-category books are visually separated to avoid confusion
    • Books with multiple incompatable enchants will gain a unique texture denoting it as a non-catagorized "stacked" book.

  • Clean fallback handling

    • If there are books the pack does not handle they will default to a uncatagorized book with a "?" icon.
    • No book is left ambiguous or misleading

If you are having issues please verify your mods are installed properly and "Custom Item Textures" are enabled.
