Osmium
Manage, monitor, debug, and operate your Minecraft servers from a single control plane.
Osmium is a remote server management platform for Paper servers that combines real-time monitoring, remote administration, plugin management, file management, and centralized observability into a single dashboard. It is designed for server owners who want to manage their Minecraft infrastructure remotely without repeatedly logging into the host machine.
Osmium consists of a Paper plugin, a web dashboard, and an optional host agent that enables advanced management features.
What Osmium Does
Osmium allows server owners to:
- Monitor server status remotely
- View TPS, player count, memory usage, CPU usage, and network statistics
- Execute server console commands remotely
- Browse, edit, upload, download, and delete server files
- Search Modrinth projects and install compatible plugins
- Start and stop Minecraft servers remotely through the optional host agent
- Manage multiple servers from a single dashboard
The goal of Osmium is to provide a centralized management experience for Minecraft servers while keeping setup and operation as simple as possible.
Connectivity & Data Collection
Osmium connects to the official Osmium backend in order to provide dashboard functionality, remote administration, telemetry collection, authentication, and server management features.
Depending on the features being used, the plugin may transmit:
- Server telemetry
- Performance statistics
- Status information
- Authentication and session information
- User-requested management actions
This communication is required for Osmium's remote monitoring and management functionality.
Optional Host Agent
Osmium can be used with an optional host agent that provides additional capabilities beyond those available through the Minecraft plugin alone.
These capabilities currently include:
- Host operating system information
- Java runtime information
- System resource monitoring
- Remote server start and stop operations
- Remote plugin installation
- Advanced file management functionality
The host agent is optional and can be installed separately.
Security
Security is a core design goal of Osmium.
All file management operations are intentionally restricted to the configured Minecraft server directory. Osmium cannot access files outside the configured server root directory.
Additional security measures include:
- Secure authentication systems
- Credential hashing
- Packet validation
- Directory traversal protection
- Audit logging
- Confirmation prompts for destructive actions
Supported Software
Currently supported:
- Paper
Support for additional server software may be added in future releases.
Current Status
Osmium is currently in Alpha.
Features, APIs, packet formats, user interfaces, and workflows may change between releases. Feedback, bug reports, and testing are greatly appreciated as the project continues to evolve.
