Fog Stalker
Fog Stalker introduces a natural stealth mechanic tied to weather conditions. During rain or thunderstorms, hostile mobs have their detection range significantly reduced, simulating reduced visibility in poor weather. This affects zombies, skeletons, spiders, and other common hostile mobs by lowering their follow range attribute when precipitation is active. When the weather clears, detection ranges return to normal.
This creates emergent gameplay where players can use storms as cover for risky travel or base raids, while clear skies mean heightened danger.
Technical Details
- Lightweight tick function that checks weather state and applies or removes attribute modifiers
- Only processes when weather actually changes to minimize performance impact
- No player-exposed commands
- Runs seamlessly in survival without requiring player interaction
- Effect applies globally to all loaded hostile mobs
Configuration
Server operators can adjust the detection reduction multiplier by modifying a single scoreboard value.
