BotanyCompatLayer
BotanyCompatLayer expands Botany Pots compatibility for Minecraft 1.21.1 by adding support for many crops, plants, flowers, aquatic plants, mushrooms, and soils from other mods.
Features
- Adds hundreds of additional Botany Pots crop definitions.
- Adds explicit seed-to-crop mappings where the seed item and crop block use different registry IDs.
- Adds additional compatible dirt, grass, farmland, sand, moss, slime-dirt, and other natural soil blocks.
- Assigns suitable Botany Pots soil categories to special plants such as aquatic plants, mushrooms, and desert plants.
- Filters out obvious false positives such as decorative blocks, terrain-only blocks, logs, lattices, and non-plant entries.
- Uses safe optional-mod handling so the datapack can be installed even when only some of the supported content mods are present.

Not every plant or block from every listed mod is necessarily supported. BotanyCompat adds compatibility only for entries that were identified as suitable Botany Pots crops or soils. Obvious false positives and unsuitable decorative or terrain blocks are intentionally excluded.
All listed content mods are optional. Compatibility entries belonging to mods that are not installed are ignored.
Requirements
Required
- Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1
- Botany Pots
- Bookshelf
- Any normal runtime dependencies required by your Botany Pots installation
Optional
All content mods for which compatibility entries are included. If one of those mods is not installed, its recipes and optional soil-tag entries are ignored.
Botany Trees is not required for this release.
Installation
- Download the datapack ZIP.
- Place it in
<world>/datapacks/. - Start or restart the world/server, or run
/reload. - Verify that the pack appears in
/datapack list.
Modpack authors may also load the datapack globally with a compatible datapack loader.
Compatibility
This release is intentionally marked for Minecraft 1.21.1 only.
The datapack uses the 1.21.1 data pack format and Botany Pots' 1.21.1 recipe system. Later Minecraft versions use newer data pack formats, and Botany Pots compatibility must be verified separately before those versions are advertised as supported.
Optional-mod safety
Crop and soil recipes use Bookshelf registry load conditions such as bookshelf:block_exists and bookshelf:item_exists. Soil tag additions use optional tag entries with "required": false.
As a result, compatibility entries belonging to mods that are not installed are skipped instead of being treated as required registry entries.
Scope
This project focuses on straightforward Botany Pots compatibility. Ambiguous saplings and seed items that could not be mapped reliably were intentionally left out rather than shipping incorrect drops or incomplete tree behavior.

BotanyCompat is available under the MIT License.
