Adaptive Sneak
This is a simple client-side mod for those who sometimes like toggle sneaking, and other times like to hold it.
Playing with it is the best way to figure out how it works, and once you configure the timing to your liking, it feels very natural. To get you started, here are a couple things to know:
- The typical double-click speed is 130ms - 160ms
- If you sometimes tap shift quickly and don't want to activate sneak toggle (nudging yourself downward while in creative mode as an example), try setting the hold threshold to 75 and adjust from there.
Mechanics
- Tap (or double tap if set in the configs) the sneak key to toggle crouching.
- Hold the sneak key to crouch only until it is released.
- A hold is recognized after 150 ms, but can be adjusted via a config file.
- Even if you are already sneaking, holding the sneak key more than the threshold will turn off toggle sneaking meaning you will stand up once you let go.
The mod updates Minecraft's Sneak: Toggle/Hold accessibility option to match the most recent gesture. It works with rebound sneak keys and requires no server installation.
