Stay in the Light
Step into darkness and you die instantly.
How it works
- Every tick the pack checks the light level at every player's feet.
- If it's below 5, the player dies on the spot.
- It's the combined light level, the same one mob spawning uses: the brighter of block light (torches, lava, glowstone) and sky light, with sky light dimmed by time of day and weather.
- Players in creative and spectator mode are ignored.
Limitations
- Nights outdoors are deadly. At midnight open-air sky light drops to 4, so without a light source nearby you die; in rain it starts even earlier, at dusk.
- Respawning at night can turn into a death loop: if your spawn point is dark, you die again right after respawning. Keep a light source next to your bed or spawn.
Configuration
The threshold is set in data/stay_in_the_light/function/tick.mcfunction: light:{light:{max:4}} kills at 4 and below. Raise or lower the number to change it, then run /reload.
