Unbreakable Leads
Unbreakable Leads is a lightweight Fabric mod that prevents leads from automatically snapping during normal gameplay.
Leads can stay attached through long distances, fast movement, knockback, falling, elytra firework boosts, mounting, lag spikes, and ordinary chunk unload/reload cycles.
Features
- Prevents leads breaking from excessive distance
- Keeps leads attached during fast movement and knockback
- Prevents automatic detachment during elytra firework boosts
- Keeps leads attached when mounting entities
- Preserves attachments through chunk unloads and reloads
- Safely catches up leashed entities at extreme distances
- Supports both player-held leads and fence attachments
- Fully configurable
- No commands, permissions, or custom networking required
Server-side
Unbreakable Leads is server-side only.
On a dedicated server, players can connect using a completely vanilla client without installing the mod themselves.
It also works in singleplayer when installed normally through Fabric.
Requirements
Minecraft 26.2
- Fabric Loader 0.19.3+
- Fabric API
- Java 25
Older Minecraft versions use separate compatibility builds where available.
Configuration
A configuration file is automatically created at:
config/unbreakable-leads.properties
You can configure:
- Player-held leads
- Fence-attached leads
- Extreme-distance teleport/catch-up
- Catch-up distance
- Intentional player detachment
- Lead break sounds
Intentional actions such as manually removing a lead or using shears remain available by default.
Compatibility
Unbreakable Leads preserves Minecraft's normal leash data rather than introducing a custom attachment system.
Removing the mod will not make worlds dependent on custom leash entities or data formats — affected leads simply return to vanilla behaviour.
Cross-dimension travel, entity death, permanent entity removal, and destroyed fence knots can still end a leash normally.
Open Source
Unbreakable Leads is open source and licensed under the MIT License.
